    2. I'd like to know this also. My Grandad T.T.Baker was editor of Holdenville Times about 1901-1915, and some say instrumental in having Hughes carved out as a county.

    3. You might want to check the index listed for the book " "Acho" Flower Of The Prairie" by Fran Cook. The index can be found at http://www.rootsweb.com/~okgenweb . This book had a lot of good information about Hughes County and it's beginnings up to 1910. If you find your T. T. BAKER listed there you can write to me off list for a look up. I don't remember if he was in the book but the index will tell you. Please be sure to include the page number. Vickie Neill Taylor flip@okplus.com

    3. It seems as if the latest virus problem has calmed down, but it would only take one or two of you opening an attachment with a virus to set it off again. It is not over, but it has calmed down. Just this morning I received another on - and did as I suggest you do DELETED IT. Please remember: DO NOT OPEN ANY ATTACHMENT unless you know 100% what it is and who is from and have run a virus scan on it. I don't care how inviting the subject line is, "homepage", "Read this", "The Docs you ask for", etc. . Also please remember that this virus is not being spread via Rootsweb, but is being spread via attachments that are being sent out by rootsweb members. If you want additional information on what a virus is go to http://ca.com/virusinfo/faq.htm it is an informative site. If you don't have a good Virus Scan, I use Norton Anti virus, you need to get one that you trust and fast. If you are not sure what kind to get, you might want to join the virus discussion list to get additional information on the different programs. VIRUS-DISCUSSION-L-REQUEST@ROOTSWEB.COM Again, I appreciate your support as we have gone through the last month or so fighting this problem. I also appreciated your willingness to do all that is necessary to help me fight the problem. Kathleen Burnett List Mom

    3. At this time, you can contact the Hudson-Phillips Funeral Home in Holdenville for the records. If your Ligons go way back, you may not be able to get the information until the book you need has been scanned. They will have a index reference and the pages of the books have been put on CD. They will be able to open the record that you want and print it from the CD. I am hoping to get permission to put the index online at the Hughes Co. site. I have not obtained that permission yet though. But I"m working on it. The finished books are Hudson Funeral Home, 1911 - April 1915 and Allen Funeral Home, 1937 - 1941 I think it was. I will tell you that I have Hudson 1915-1918 at this time. I looked through it yesterday afternoon and there was a Ligon buried in the Bilby Cemetery, south of Holdenville. I don't recall a first name though. I don't know that this is the same person but I do know that the parents of Clifford Ligon were buried in the Bilby Cemetery. That cemetery is online if that will help you any. If memory serves, Clifford was buried in Oakwood Cemetery in Wewoka. I hope to be able to offer some lookups after the job is completed. 3. I just thought I'd let you all know that the old Funeral Records that had been closed in Hughes County are now on the SAVED list. The first two books have now been scanned and the others will be done as soon as time allows. For what it's worth, the books are being scanned, one page at a time and then stored on CD. An index of each book is being compiled for a reference. It is slow going but it is going. Happy Wednesday! Vickie Neill Taylor flip@okplus.com

    1. Re: [OKROOTS] Good News!!! FamTreLady
    2. I'm not sure if you were directing this question to me, but didn't want to ignore your message. I joined the Howell County, Missouri email list and had sent a query to the list. It was by good fortune that some extremely kind ladies helped me in finding where my grandfather was buried. Another lady without me requesting went to the cemetery and took the picture then emailed it to me as an attachment. If you feel your individual was in Howell County, Missouri, I recommend that you sign up for their email list. They have some very helpful people on their list. I join any County email list that I feel family would have moved to then send a query to the list. Sometimes you may have to send a question a couple of times over a period of time to some lists as they are small. New members are always joining so you may find what you need. Good Luck----- Paula

    1. [OKROOTS] Growing Up With Tulsa
    2. Just wanted to let anyone interested to know that I have added part 2 of Chapter 5 - School Years from Blanche Opal Kern Schad's book "Growing Up With Tulsa". Opal's mother Emma was sister to my GG-grandfather Richard E. Harrison of Beemer, Nebraska. I do not have a name index for this book but some early Tulsa people are mentioned in her book, and this is a wonderful part of my family history that I am sharing with the kind permission of Opal's son Harry Schad of Tulsa, Oklahoma. I hope you will enjoy it. It was not published but is available in the Tulsa, OK Libraries. I was lucky enough to be given a signed copy of this book by cousin Harry. I am trying to add parts of the book weekly so please be sure to check back often. <A HREF="http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~irishrose/opalstoc.html"> Growing Up With Tulsa - Table of Contents - Opal's Tales</A> http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~irishrose/opalstoc.html <A HREF="http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~irishrose/schoolyears2.html"> School Years part 2 - Opal's Tales from "Growing Up With Tulsa"</A> http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~irishrose/schoolyears2.html Take care ~Kathie Harrison <A HREF="http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~irishrose/index.html"> HARRISON ROOTS & BRANCHES</A> http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~irishrose/index.html

    3. I was looking on the web site that someone put out the other day about the History of Oklahoma. In it there was a page that was on J.B. O'Bryan. It mentioned that he married a Mattie Chandler and there were brothers that fought in the war with Gen. Sam Houston. They were Capt. Joel W. Chandler and Lieut. Harrison H. Chandler. Where could I find more information on them? I am sending this to two different list and hope to get some information back on them. Thank You! Beverly (Chandler) Phillips

    3. The breaking of your brick walls is such good news that I just had to write and say congratulations!!!! By the way, in case everyone doesn't already know, I do "headstone hunting" at the National Jefferson Barracks Memorial Cemetery in St. Louis, MO. No charge of course. It's my day in the sun and I take photo of your ancestor's grave and send over the email attachment. http://www.geocities.com/netthetics/tombstones.html

    1. [OKROOTS] Good News!!!
    2. List, I just have to share my exciting "good news." In March some kind ladies in Missouri, Howell County, found that my grandfather had died and was buried in Amy, Missouri. He was the first person to be buried in Union Amy Cemetery. Cindy even sent me a photo of his headstone. A big brick wall knocked down. I would have never expected him to have been in Amy, but had a hunch he could have been somewhere in Missouri. Last night a couple that have a Alamosa County, Colorado web page had been doing a census look up on a great uncle. They had also sent me some names and dates of my family name buried in Alamosa and Costilla County Cemetery. Lo and Behold the 2 names in the Blanca, Colorado cemetery are my great grandparents! A huge brick wall is now broken down. I finally have the information on my grandparents, great grandparents, etc., up to 1707. For me that is a huge treat!!!! Now I can concentrate on aunts, uncles, etc., as well as try and find information about their lives. Miracles do happen through the kindness of others. I never anticipated finding my paternal grandfather nor his parents place of death. Wishing everyone good fortune in their search........... Paula/Oregon

He was the first person I find it interesting that someone else went through howell county to find info about their family :) Most of my contacts in the area have been very helpful. Of course my own father answered a big mystery when I couldn't locate GGrand Dad's grave in the Missouri Cemetary. He never told me that he was buried in Oklahoma with my Grand Father. Congrats on your find. Thomas Vickers
