LeeRoy John HIGGINS b: 19 Feb. 1915 pob: America McCurtain County Ok. Never married dod: 04 Dec. 1970 Burial: Wheelock Mission Cemetery Millerton,OK. LeeRoy John Higgins was real prone to tipping the bottle a bit to often. He however was a real good worker and loved people (some of them) and then only if he liked them.....if not well, it was best to avoid him or step out of his way. Family story was he did cause his mother much heartache. At a young age he was a real handful to handle. He fired into a car full of people (people of color). Oma DAVIS HIGGINS turned him in and he did do Jail time over it. It is also stated that he may have served time in the Mental institution at Vinita,Ok. rather that jail time. This was in the late 20's or 30's. LeeRoy was blind in one eye. Question: How did he loose the one eye ? Question: Could someone in that area check the newspaper and copy the coverage of this incident ? (I will be most happy to pay cost per hour as well as cost of copies and mailing). The area would have been around the Garvin Community; It is said that Oma DAVIS HIGGINS lived on Buzzard Creek in McCurtain County OK. LeeRoy John HIGGINS ended his journey in this life in a tragic accident on the evening of December 04 1970 on SH 37 when he was struck by an automobile at 7:30 PM. he was tossed 25 feet into the air and landed on the pavement. He was taken to Idabel Hospital where two hours later the Death Angel ushered him into the hereafter. LeeRoy Left at 8:30pm. I never had the chance to meet this man, I do respect him. Worse than anything else was when I visited his grave last year and read his Stone. On his stone it reads His Friends cared. I sat beside this mans grave and cried and thanked God that he had people who cared enough to put him away properly and that really did care for this man that I never had a chance meet or get to know. I Would not have the above information on my family if this wonderful kind Lady had not obtained the information through many miles of travel as well as hours spent in court houses and cemetery records. It was this lady that took me to Wheelock Mission and led me to the graves of my loved ones. Later before I left I returned and had my long awaited time with them. Hi, I am looking for information about my great great grandmother and her brother . Their names were Maud New and Jack New. Maud is listed on the 1910 McCurtain county census. She was married to her second husband Jess Brinkley. Her first husband's name was Will Hess. Maud died in 1934 at the age of 41. Jack New lived somewhere in OK. I found a picture today that looked like a wedding picture on the back was the names Jack New and Bessie Hughinout or something like that I couldn't make it out. Thanks Tawsha

I am looking for the parents of Warren Quince Couch -- Warren Jackson Couch and Lavonia Antonette Couch (maiden name Couch). Her grand parents we William & Rebecca Couch who lived in Calhoun, Ark. Not sure of his parents and where he came from and where he went to. He was married before marrying Lavonia -- but have not been able to find out her name. Later Lavonia married a Teal. These are the OK families I am researching: Western OK, especially in Washita County, and later in Oklahoma County: RAY HARDIN FLATT MCCARLEY WALKER MORRIS I know the Rays, the Flatts, McCarleys got to Washita in 1905, the Hardins/Hardens (two brothers settled there-one liked one spelling, one the other) a little later. I have a lot about the Hardens, the McCarleys, the Flatts, the Rays, but very little about the Walkers and the Morrises. Most, if not all migrated from north TX East OK: DONALDSON FLOYD Walter Donaldson settled in what is now Choctaw county about 1890, as a baptist missionary. He was married more than once, but my gggrandmother his wife was named Mattie FLOYD. They lived around Antlers, and later in Hugo, and there was some back and forth in the family to DeQueen, AR, where I know some of the Floyds settled down. I am looking for my GG-Grandmothers family. Her name is lula Mae Harrell-Rippetoe. She was married to my GG-Grandfather Bird Rippetoe. Bird Rippetoe b. 15 MAR 1871 d. 13 JUNE 1956 p.d. Chelsea, Rogers co., OK he and Lula Mae are buried there together. I have a photo of the headstone, and other family related headstones near by. Lula Mae Harrell-Rippetoe b. 17 DEC 1878 d. 4 OCT 1959 p.d. OK They had three children: Emma Lee Robert Ernest Wallace Emma Lee Rippetoe was my G-Grandmother. She married Clyde Martin and had 11 Children, nine of which are still living. I am interested in finding out who my GG-Grandmothers family was. It is said that her mother may have been Jane Condry, her father I have no idea. Jane Condry is suppose to be full-blooded Cherokee Indian. Any help would be appreciated, Harrell families still live in and around Chelsea. I have recently received a death notice from the Chelsean of a Harrell, and possibly a relation. Thank you, Tina

I can avoid my OK-Wilson line no longer, this list has shamed me into looking for William (Will) Wilson, in McQueen, Harmon Co., in 1938 (and probably earlier). He was born in Pickens/Anderson Co, SC in 1848 and moved to Grayson Co, TX 1865-1870 with his widowed mother, Abby Orr Wilson, siblings and numerous aunts and uncles. Do not know when he moved to McQueen. Family legend is that he may have had something to do with the attorney general's office. Have much to share on his siblings and ancestors, but have never been able to locate Will. Thanks! helen wall
