    3. Debi, I think you have the "other" Ellis line. There is an Ellis line in OK that I have not been able to connect to (yet). Try this site: http://cust.iamerica.net/jtmayes/ It belongs to J.T. Mayes. I've not been able to find a connection to his lines; but we keep thinking it's there somewhere if we go back far enough. >Cindy, > >In addition to the SHULL's, I have a bio on the ELLIS family. 1. [OKROOTS-L] JOHNSON's/YARBROUGH/JORDAN - Texas Co., OK
    2. D. Tate
    3. Hi Jean, Was perusing all my OKROOTS mail and realized you had the whole JOHNSON clan tied to Texas Co., OK. I assisted a JORDAN/YARBROUGH researcher recently on a Texas Co., OK genweb post. The bio didn't state which child authored it, only that the author married W.R. JOHNSON - this bio was in the PANHANDLE PIONEERS Volume 1, 1969 Texhoma, Texas Co., OK - Texhoma Genealogical and Historical Society. The author was the youngest of the YARBROUGH children and a school teacher, her husband she states is W.R. JOHNSON, mail carrier from Eva, eventually Texhoma. There was minimal information on the JOHNSON's and I deducted that the YARBROUGH History author must have been Mrs. Walter JOHNSON. But you may be able to shed additional light on that for the JOHNSON researchers there. You might want to take a look at that site to see if there are any connections there. I desperately sought additional information on the JOHNSON's as they owned the first garage in Texhoma, it was later purchased by Sam JACKSON and my grandfather worked there until he retired - and even after he retired. Thanks, Debi WILSON/HESS/COLLINS/PORTER/HENDERSON - MUSE/LAMB/HALLOWELL/BEACH/BUTLER/DILL/DALTON/BRASWELL/POPE - TATE/MICHAEL/WOODS/BIVENS/SHULL/ROGERS/SMITH/OSBORNE - REAVES/ANTHONY/GUNTER/KIGER/BARNES/CLARK - Jean wrote: > > -----Original Message----- > From: Jean <j3an@flash.net> > To: stribble@busprod <stribble@busprod>; com@busprod.com <com@busprod.com> > Date: Thursday, September 10, 1998 6:45 PM > Subject: Re: [OKROOTS-L] GIBSON'S >TAYOR'S >GARRETT'S>WALL'S > > >I have some Johnsons. > >Nancy Bauguess b 1818 Wilkes Co. 1. [OKROOTS-L] VAN GUNDY/BUTLER - DEWEY Co.
    2. D. Tate
    3. Hi Glenn, Was reviewing the OKROOTS posts and realized you had a VAN GUNDY surname. I'm curious about the name because my gg grandfather was F.G. BUTLER b. 22 Feb 1837, AR d. 15 Apr. 1905, Vernon, Wilbarger Co., TX. Family history says he wondered and was a "hobo", which was a term used for the men who roamed around the country workin' as farm and ranch laborers. For years we believed his name was Felix Alexander BUTLER until we found his Jack Co., TX marriage record, Parker and Jack Co., TX land records and several years census (Tarrant and Parker) stating F.G. BUTLER. His youngest son, Alexander BUTLER's bible stated his name was Felix GUNDY BUTLER, but I've pondered whether it might have been Felix GRUNDY BUTLER. My grandmother Malissia Josephine "Josie" (BUTLER) was F.G.'s second born child and she passed away in Jackson Co. OK in 1968. However, she was born and went to school in Whitt, Parker Co., TX. Upon visiting that cemetery, unfortunately, I found no BUTLER's, many PATTON's and a husband and wife Van GUNDY. At this point, I'm really beginning to wonder if he changed his name. Vernon, Wilbarger Co., TX has provided excellent assistance and researched their card file for me many times, but to no avail. So, if he is indeed buried there, it must be an unmarked, unrecorded grave. And, another possibility is that the railroad came through Vernon in 1905 and the cemetery was relocated across the tracks. I look forward to hearing back from you, Debi WILSON/HESS/COLLINS/PORTER/HENDERSON - MUSE/LAMB/HALLOWELL/BEACH/BUTLER/DILL/DALTON/BRASWELL/POPE - TATE/MICHAEL/WOODS/BIVENS/SHULL/ROGERS/SMITH/OSBORNE - REAVES/ANTHONY/GUNTER/KIGER/BARNES/CLARK - Glenn Belcher wrote: > > Newfield/Newfelt/Neufieldt: Dewey County, OK > Van Gundy: Dewey County, OK [or close to it] > Brown: Dewey County, OK [or close to it]

    1. [OKROOTS-L] James Alexander Webb
    2. Jenny L Tolbert
    3. Hi I hope you can clear up a mystery for me. I have a gggrandfather James Alexander Webb dob 11-2-1853 in Cherokee Co. Alabama or Cherokee Co. Georgia (I believe it is probably Alabama but not sure as I have records for both locals). He married Sarah (Sallie) Agnes Clifton on 2-7-1878 place unknown. James was Methodist preacher in Alabama, Texas, Oklahoma Territory and Oklahoma. He was licensed to preach in March 1878 and was appointed presiding elder of the Birmingham District on January 20, 1892 by Bishop Isaac W. Joyce. On December 1, 1897 Bishop C. C. McCabe transferred him to the Austin Conference. In the fall of 1903 Bishop John W. Walden transferred him to the Oklahoma Conference. The towns he preached in were Deer Creek, Supply, Arnett, Waynoka, Capron, Buffalo, Moreland, Delaware and Kaw City. James died in Kaw City, Oklahoma on June 10, 1922. I have all this information, but I don't know who his parents were, did he have any siblings or if he was born in Alabama or Georgia. I even have a photo of this fine gentleman. Could any one please tell me who his mama and papa were? Any help would be greatly appreciated. 1. [OKROOTS-L] West Oklahoma Home at Helena, OK
    2. William & Nelda Rowland
    3. I have court records indicating my mother's cousins were taken to the West Oklahoma Home at Helena, May 9, 1918. There were 5 children ages 1 to 9. (Their mother had died and the father became mentally unstable and was unable to care for them). Helena seems to be a very small town (710 population now) in Alfalfa County. This was approximately 70 miles from their previous home in Dewey County.. My question, does anyone have info on this home? Thanks. Nelda
