    1. Norman Hospital (Was Re: Fw: [OKROOTS-L] e-mail addresses, please!)
    2. Gene Philips
    3. It seems most want the answer posted to the list. I like it that way too. I belong to one list that the rule is answer to the list, everyone is nosey and wants to know what is going on. With that in mind here is the personal reply I sent to the person about the hospital at Norman. The name was Central State Hospital. It still exists but it's mission has changed due the political correctness of the 80's which threw mental patients out on the streets. The hospital is now called Griffin Memorial Hospital. The cemetery is located adjacent to the IOOF cemetery in Norman. I haven't been there but have been told most of the graves are unmarked. All the patients there were not mental. Some of them were there because of their physical illness and their families couldn't afford paying hospitals. I manage the Cleveland County webpage on USGenWeb. I have got many heartbreaking stories of people whose ancestors were just dumped off at the hospital and forgotten about. I have checked with the Cleveland County Genealogical Society and they don't have any records of who was at the hospital. Give me the names and any other information you have and I will try to get down there Saturday and check the cemetery and funeral home records they have and see what I can find. I suspect that the hospital may have done their own preparations for burial and did not use any of the funeral homes. I am going out of town tomorrow, but should be back by Saturday. 2. Don't think I am related the the Couch teacher. The Wrights I need to get my act together. My grandmother was Emma Katherine Wright Couch. She had a half-brother Harvey Couch and half sister, whose name just slipped my mind while I was typing. U. Harvey lived around Dequeen, AR. Grandma had a sister Fanny Wright who also married a Couch. Not sure if that was a sister or half sister. I have much more info on Couch family than the others. Thanks for the help.

    3. I don't want to tell anyone how to post, but [always one of those isn't there] I do have a couple of suggestions. Use them or not, I don't mind. Placing surnames in all CAPS is kind of nice. It lets you scan an otherwise unconnected email for possible connections faster. Turning off the "quote message in reply" is nice also. It saves bandwidth on the web and in the archive. It also speeds download of messages. If you must quote, cut and paste the pertinet sections int the new message, usualy with a "(snip)". Some email servers don't handle "MIME" formatted messages at all and others make real hash of the message. Turning off "MIME" is a pretty good idea most of the time. Genealogy isn't just the facts and figures about our ancestors, it is also a study of history. If you have somthing of general interest post it back to the group. Its a tough call sometimes as to post or not. Sometimes a historic story or funny thing we find is a nice break from names and dates. If anyone is interested I have a funny little story about census takers from another list that I would post as an example. I'll get off my soapbox now. If you like my suggestions use them. If not, don't. Bill Walsh

    1. [OKROOTS-L] HORSLEY Cherokee Strip Livestock Association 1870 -
    2. Bill Walsh
    3. Prior to the opening of the Cheokee Outlet there were a group of cattlemen that leased the Outlet from the Cheroke Indians. My GGGrandfather Joshua Theodore HORSLEY [B. Jan 4,1845in Matton, Coles Co., Illinois D. Jan 4,1904 inear Marshall, Logan Co., Oklahoma] was one of these cattlemen. As near as I can figure out he leased about 35 square miles of Kay County. I would very much like to find records from this group, if any still exist. Theodore made the run into the Oklahoma Territory and settled in the Marshall, Logan County area. I would also like to find any other HORSLEY researchers out there I have quite a lot of information about his descendants. His second wife Willie Ann PAYNE [B. Mar 29,1861 in Park City, Kentucky D. Oct 30,1946 in Shawnee, Pottawattomie Co., Oklahoma] and her children moved to the Shawnee area. His first wife, Sophie FRALICH [B. Oct 1845 D. Feb 26,1878 in Hunnewell Ka], is thought to have had cousins[?] in the Muskogee area by the name of BLOOM. Their daughter, Nettie, moved to the Shawnee area also. Their son, Calvin, stayed at the land near Marshall and also had property in Enid, Garfield County. Other names of interest: HADLEY Lookeba, Caddo County BENNETT Marshall, Logan County DEAN Shawnee, Pottawattomie County and Beaver, Beaver County McCANNON Shawnee, Pottawattomie County BROWN Shawnee, Pottawattomie County SMITH Enid, Garfield County HOLCOMB Beaver, Beaver County Bill Walsh My World http://www.geocities.com/Heartland/Prairie/4113/index.html
