    1. [OKROOTS-L] Re: OKROOTS-D Census Look Up- 1920 OK
    2. Sue Bumerts
    3. I am new to the list and saw someone had requested a look up on the 1920 OK census. If that is available I would appreciate a look up for my grandfather Jackson Thomas BARKER born 1872 TX and his daughter born abt 1907 OK Belle BARKER, Jacks wife was born in ARK I don't have her name or date of birth. Jack married my grandmother Wanda Brown in the 1920's. I don't know if he was a widower or divorced. Thank you so much. 1. [OKROOTS-L] Cliffton Hopper
    2. Does anyone out there know CLIFFORD HOPPER, he may have used the name 'HOWARD'. He's our 2nd cousin and has vital information for us to put in a Family History book we're getting ready to print. He grew up in Duncan, Stephens County, OK, was a sophmore in high school in 1946 so he must have graduated in 1948-49. His dad, JOHN O. HOPPER worked at the Duncan Bulletin Newspaper. >From there he went to Dallas, TX. His mother, BERNICE HOPPER, moved there after his father died. She died in Dallas in 1995 and is buried in the Greenwood Cemetery in Ft. Worth. He no longer lives at the address he had at that time, and I can't find a phone listing for him. If anyone is familiar with this family, I would appreciate a contact! Thanks! Phyllis Hopper in Oregon

    3. Hi Wendy, THOMAS YOUNG & RACHEL LEEWRIGHT YOUNG were in that area, RACHEL is said to be buried at DIXIE CEM. near ARDMORE. She is said to buried next to her daughter DORA ISABELLE YOUNG GARNER, DORA is listed in the cem. records but RACHEL isn't. Her grave marker must be gone. I have a old picture of THOMAS and RACHEL with the small children, it must have been taken 1883-1884. The cardboard frame says: WYNNEWOOD, IDNIAN TERRITORY. THOMAS was born in England and spoke with an English accent. RACHEL was born in Evansville, Indiana. DORA ISABELLE YOUNG GARNER and JOHN J. GARNER were living there in later years. JOHN J. GARNER ran a ferry across RED RIVER. Do you know anything about that? I understand people used to have to cross that way. Will post this to Oklahoma Roots-L also. The surnames I am researching are AVANT, BAKER, BAILEY, BELCHER, CLAIBORNE, DAVIS, DILLON, FLETCHER, GARNER, GOOCH, HANING, HAWK, MCKINNEY, POWHATAN, THOMPSON, YOUNG. Nora N. 3. BEST PEOPLE IN OKLAHOMA Marietta Monitor in 1932. Sends greetings to Marietta friends in a letter to S.B. SIVELLS. Reading between the lines his friends here are outspoken in their belief that Fred is not as well satisified hunting gray squirrels in the Georgia hills as he would be hooking channel cat in Red river with the old gang to help run the lines. In perusing Fred's letter we find that he hasn't forgotten his friends in Marietta and Love County and the old gang is now beginning to plan for a big fishing trip when he rolls in next spring. Here is some of the things Fred says in his letter written a few mornings ago: Dear Friend Simon: "We arrived here with very little trouble, only five days on the road, had a nice trip out here. The country looks much rougher than I expected. We are staying at present in the old house I was born in 48 years ago. Have been feasting on apples and black walnuts almost continuously since our arrival. Fishing no good, very few squirrels, all grey, and most of the chestnut trees are dead. People in bad shape here, seem like they have almost given up. Long face and no smile, many are peculiar looking - poor. Many came to court here last week, all kinds of petty cases brought into court that people in Oklahoma would never think about. "I wish the people of Marietta could only know that there are some of the best people on earth living there. We know times are hard everywhere, yet by the help and promise of God, I have been able to smile many times each day. Looking on the dark side I am poor, but to look on the bright side I am as rich as one could wish to be. Give each one of my friends my best regards." Letter written by the grandfather of Lynn B. 1. [OKROOTS-L] No record in Funeral Home's Yellow Book
    2. My grandfather was buried by Mowbray Undertaking, it is not listed in the yellow book according to Floral Haven. This is Tulsa, Oklahoma Tulsa County. I found the following on the Tulsa rootsweb site: 1887- Tulsa's second sanctuary was the first Methodist Episcopal Church to be dedicated in Indian Territory. The Rev. George Mowbray, who would later serve as Tulsa's undertaker and mayor, was the first permanent preacher. Does anyone know how to go about finding who took this "business" over? I have a relative that I can find nothing on and OKC does not have his death certificate.

    1. Re: [OKROOTS-L] WHITE, JUSTICE MO>AR>OK
    2. Maybe Alice Jane Dawson Baxter Smith Tuner and/or Robert Turner I don't know about the middle initial. It would be great if you could find out anything. Robert, Alice's wife, is the one that it is probably buried in Olkmulgee. His son, Robert, my grandfather, is buried in Claremore County cemetery. Don't know about middle initials on him either. Hattie, my grandmother is buried beside Robert in Claremore. the elder Robert came over fromEngland, and is supposed to have owned a coal mine in Schulter. Have you heard of Schulter? Thanks sooo much for all the help. I am really hoping that I will be able to find out info on this side of the family.
