Oh I go brain dead sometimes and blubber like an idiot like most folks. I am just real real good at finding stuff. I have my Masters Degree in Nursing, so I have done a lot of research in the past, and when you are a Nurse with a Master's, you have a tendency to get paid for what you know, not what you do. Half of being a nurse is knowing where to go to find things, so I am good at looking things up. Add that to a perpetual curiosity about the past, a real LOVE for the State I have lived in all my life, a lust for learning new things about Oklahoma and a family that came here before 1850 and a stubborn Scots/Irish/Indian background, and what do you have? Uh...you have a very brief bio of : Me. 8) thanks for the compliment tho, really. Nalora

As you research earlier times, Maps that show early postal roads, migration trails and waterways become really important. Railroads in existence during certain time frames, cenus maps of the concentration of foreign born citizens, stuff like that. I highly recommend the Historical Atlas of Oklahoma by John H Morris to anyone doing a great deal of Oklahoma research. Maps I have found especially helpful in this volume are: Homelands of Oklahoma Indians. (shows the original lands in the US the tribes who came to Oklahoma occupied) American Explorers: 1832-1853 (shows the original Forts and Posts and roads used by various explorers in that time frame) Railroads in Oklahoma 1870-1975. (Also shows old abandoned lines) Counties of Oklahoma Territory and Recording districts of Indian Territory Indian Territory 1866-1889 Shows all of Indian Territories by tribe. Indian Territory 1889 Shows what is left of Indian Territory in 1889 Cattle Trails shows all the old cattle trails and how the ran. Cherokee Nation, Important places. Gives town listings for all the important places in the Cherokee Nation. Important Routes and Trails through Indian Territory Removal of the Five Tribes. Shows the route of the "Trail of Tears" and what tribes were removed from where. Those are the ones in the book I have used most in my research, but there are many many many others in this atlas. I am still slowly going through various papers and stuff my grandmother stashed away. My Uncle's yearbooks were in the stash: 1959, 1960 1961 Shawnee High (Pottawatamie County) 1964, 1965 OBU Shawnee, (Pottawatamie County) 1962, 1963 OU (Cleveland Co) If you think you may have relatives in these yearbooks I will be glad to look up the name in the index, I do not plan on typing up the names in these books. Every year they publish all the high school schedules and the head coach's name. Also there is a high school athletic association. I can't remember what it's official name is, but they would have that info. Or you could call my high school coach who has been coaching for 40 years in Oklahoma. I'll take this opportunity to brag about him. He is Joe Tunnell of Rush Springs. He just posted his 301st win last Friday night by crushing Walters 54-0. That is a state record for Oklahoma and probably most other states as well. He broke the old state record a couple of years ago which had stood since 1951. ----------------------------------------------- Send me Mail mailto:dataman@telepath.com Visit my Website http://www.telepath.com/dataman Coming to you from Moore Oklahoma.

In the corner of the McAlaster, OK library today I found on the floor in the corner, a beautiful old tattered log book. Inside I found many pasted newspaper clips. All old, all related to Native Americans. With all of the Surnames I see on this and other lists I found 2 that may be of interest. No dates with the article though, just the article and picture: 1st. William Henry Harrison, chief of the Choctaws and long prominent in Indian affairs, died last night at his home after a lengthy illness. 2nd Mr. and Mrs. Victor M. LOCKE, Jr. Here is Col. Victor M. Locke, jr. former Choctaw governor and superintendent of the five civilized tribes, and his bride last week the former Mrs. Sudie McAlister Barnes, daughter of the late J. J. McAlaster, founder of the city of McAlaster and second lieutenant governor of Oklahoma. The wedding climaxed a romance of the old Choctaw nation which had its begining during their college days. Mr and Mrs. LOCKE, both members of the prominent Indian Families, will make their home in Oklahoma city. Hope this helps someone! Tiffany
