My father has had a stroke. I will be in Tulsa, OK until Nov. 1. I guess, I should have told y'all that I live in Houston. Anyway, they have a really nice library there dedicated to genealogy. I plan to talk back and forth with Sharon Crawford, Marti, and Nalora and help out if possible. I will be checking my e-mail. Hugs

My ggrandfather's sister - name UNKNOWN married Mr. William ROWE. That's how she is listed in his obituary. They were living in Little Rock, Arkansas. My ggrandfather died in 1929. I know this is grasping for straws but have you ever heard of him?
I am doing Indian Lookups today. I am JUST going to look at the rolls for various tribes for the names I have listed for various tribes. I will then bring these lists back and send you the names that appear on the rolls with those names. Indian ancestory is a HARD thing to lookup/research. Some people spend YEARS AND YEARS getting it done. The indian archives at the OK History Center is housed in its own room, most of the building's museum is dedicated to artifacts of various indian tribes. Many many things are housed in the original capitals of the different Indian Nations. If you THINK you have Indian blood at all, you will have to get DEEP into map work, history books and study of the tribes when you do this research. There is a mother lode of information, however, if you DO find your kin on the rolls, especially if you find them on a final roll. (government paperwork at its finest) There were many people who did not want to claim their Indian heritage. A lot of the people who migrated to Oklahoma, came here just after the civil war from the southern states. (that is why we tawk this way, yall, 'stead 'o like nuthern folk) This meant that the idea of being an Indian, to be frank, was to some, like being a negro. So you may NEVER find a link to a tribe EXCEPT in family oral history. Another thing that must be considered is the mores and customs of the various tribes. Indians did not have the concept of "land ownership". This is a totally white man idea. Land could not be OWNED. It could not be moved, it could not be carried about with you, it was just THERE. So, consequently, a lot of indians did not get on the LAND ALLOTMENT rolls. They never understood what the white man was talking about, it was like explaining red to a blind person. One last concept was the idea that the name is a sacred thing. This is an ancient concept, found in most religions, primitive and modern around the world. To many tribes, the name was not to be spoken after death. This would be akin to "using the name in vain" in the Christian religion. Having your name RECORDED on paper would mean having that name spoken after death, and some indian tribal members would not be placed on the rolls for this reason, OR did not give their Indian names, but took a Amerindian name. This Amerindian name may be the only time you see that ancestor's "name". On any piece of paper. Anyway that is my yammer on Indian tribes. Good luck to you all. Nalora

Hi, I am searching for any information about my family that lived in or around Colbert. I have received some information from the Chickasaw Nation. My great grandfather married a Chickasaw woman and had a farm on Chickasaw land. The family then lived in Colbert. My great grandmother and her brother are buried at Colbert Garden of Memory. We have school records from Colbert, too. I know that my great grandfather was a Mason but I can't find out where to write to get these records. I will send the info that I have and if anyone knows of this line please let me know. Thank you, Candy Descendants of William S Boles Generation No. 1 1. WILLIAM S1 BOLES was born in Tennessee. Good Morning, I saw a piece on the program AgDay this morning that I thought I would share. It might help someone. William Bryant 1831 - 1918 This stone was in the Bad Lands, I'm sorry I didn't get where.. You might check http://www.AgDay.com to see if they have something posted there. Hi Vickie: I vote that you include your father's memories. while I didn't live in the Yeager area I did go to Moss High School (south of Horntown) from 1946-1950. I used to play baseball and basketball at Moss which included playing Yeager. Tooley Baxter, Bob Baxter, the Stuckey brothers all played for Yeager. So, your father's memories may relate to some of those people or their families. We've had so many new ones join us, I'm going to run these names through again. If anyone even has local history about Oklahoma County/Capitol Hill area, I would be interested in hearing it. We have an address that I don't know how to find. It is: Stop #6, South on Interurban. Any clues are appreciated. LITTLE: William M. came to Oklahoma City with his family in 1901. We know that when Fannie Maria WOLF died, my husband's dad inherited her land and it was sold to a developer who built a shopping center on it. S.E. This is lengthy, but would appreciate any comments from anyone. We still have lots of gaps in our search. Beth & Jim Little
My Grandmothers side is sketchy: Her brothers and sisters never associated so I am not sure. I do not remember a George. She had a sister Laverne who shot herself in Carnagie, Okla a brother Arthur and several others. I am just starting to dig on that side of the family. If I should find a connection in the future I will let you know. Thank you Debbie Oxford Long
I think this little summary gives everyone a better idea of what can be found if you look for it, and also allows me to organize. If anyone objects to me doing a LOOKUP summary to the list, let me know, and I will stop. I still prefer getting personal email requests for lookups, and remind you that I am on the GeneAngel page for this purpose, in fact if I am busy, it is only the easy stuff I pull. Personal mail is the only way you are sure to get my attention, I do not pull everything off the list to lookup, just some things, for my own reasons. (I was not getting very many lookups via the web page so picked some up off this list to do.) Again, if you want HARD copies, I have to charge you what it costs me, (or what it would have cost you to have them if you were here doing your own lookups..hey, I am saving you air fare!) Anyway here is what I accomplished before I went brain dead this afternoon and needed food: KING: Did a census lookup. will email you. TACKETT: email request for a census lookup. got it. WALKUP: WPA lookup looked interesting on this name. Got the articles to put on OKBits, will email you. OXFORD: No John Collins Oxford in 1900 IT Census lookup. Did not do 1900 OT. One OXFORD in 1896 Choctaw Nation: Josephine, 1/2 breed. Still have you on the list for a CHOCTAW rolls lookup if you want it. (analyze your data--think you need to be looking in HOPKINS county TX for a census lookup) MUNDELL: I have you on my list to scrounge around TUTTLE when I get a chance. (I live about 15 miles away from TUTTLE, my sister's best friend and my personal computer guru live there, so I am partial to it, you get on my lookup by default. GROSS: You gave me too much info to digest at once, so I just stuck you on the WPA lookup for Gross. There are a lot of articles with that surname. Will send you an email on the specific names. chose one for a lookup. ROWE: I have your obit on Andrew Llwelyn Rowe. Will email you. PLEW: Did a lookup in the WPA index and found an obit for an elder JC Plew but not in the area you are looking. copied it and will email you. CLARK: Did a WPA index on your Robert Clark, there was one, but not in the year you have. Thinking of trying Lincoln county cemetary books. will email you. WESTBROOK: No WPA listing for Lucinda Brownlee WESTBROOK. There are articles listed for the names: Connie and Edith Butler WESTBROOK. familiar? CONDREY School, Chelsea : Did not find CONDREY school, but did find a write up on the CONDREYs of that county in the Rogers County History book. Do you want this information? LEMASTER: did not get to your Altus paper. MILLER: did not get to your lookup. And that is it. GO CUBBIES!!!! Nalora

Hello fellow Oklahomans'. I am new to this list and not sure how to ask for help in finding information about my family, but here goes....... Looking for PINION/MASSINGALE/CALTON (CATTON)/RANKIN My great grandfather was James Wesley PINION (b 2-2-1855 GA/d 4-28-1941 OK) who married Mary Matilda CATTON (b.1-14-1853 MO/d 6-23-1930 OK). I know that they lived in or around Okemah, until his death. The main thing I'm looking for at the moment is the marriage between BERT M. PINION (b. 5-14-1886, MO/d.4-28-1970 Tulsa) and ESSIE I. MASSINGALE (b 12-8-1887 MO/d 8-15-1941 Sayre, OK). I think the time frame of their marriage should be around 1900-1905 In Okfuskee county. I found him with his parents on the 1900 census in Ofuskee. Also their divorce in Tulsa County (?) about 1925-35. Any help would be appreciated, thanks in advance. I got to the OHS at 9 am and only stayed til 11:30 and then came home for lunch, am returning this afternoon to do some census lookups and more Newspapers. Here is a list of what I got this morning: HURD (gee that is me, how did I get to the top of my own list??) 3 obits of family members. 8))) new info to digest!! yippee GERELDS: Family history page from Pottawatomie County History book. No entry for Stiles family, except on the GERELD family page. Have copy of the page, will be typing the info to you email this evening. OWEN - No obit in Shawnee paper for Oct 3-10, 1906. Did find your cemetary record and emailed it to you. WARD-Copied off the entire list of WARD in the 1896 CHOCTAW Census. LEDFORD: Copied off the Byars cemetary listings, will send off any LEDFORD names in it to you in Email BRIM: No BRIM in 1890 Oklahoma Territory Census (please keep your Twin Territories straight, now, don't panic, there is still Indian territory) TACKETT No TACKETT in 1890 Oklahoma Territory Census will be looking at 1900 this afternoon. PLEW/Plue Your cemetary listing is for an infant, there are no dates. It is Fairview Cemetary, City of Vinita, Craig county. Your stone IS however, by itself in a row, according to a map. 8/ Stone reads: J. C. Plew, Infant. LIVELY : I have Emma Lively's obit. Will be copying it to you email. Looked for William Henry but did not find it in the paper. I may have missed it though, the obits are scattered throughout the pages, and not in a designated page, so will take some time. Interesting side note, however: did you know that William Henry died the same day as the Alcatraz riots? LEMASTER: No mention in the OKC paper of the drowning of your family member, and it is not listed in the WPA index. I am going to look in Lawton and Altus papers.
