    1. [OKROOTS-L] Coweta.....Koeta/Keota
    2. Bill Seideman
    3. Did anyone else notice the typo here? This might answer some of the confusion. When I read the original from Vicki (which I deleted), I saw that in one sentence she had written Keota and in another sentence she had written Koeta. COWETA and KOETA sound the same and could have been misspelled on some buildings in that town. It is overlooking little things like this that has caused some researchers to claim that my great-grandmother was having babies when she was 9 years old. (Mattie, older sister Mollie...kind of look the same especially on a census record) Mattie's mother-in-law was having them when she was 54 years old! (maybe she wanted to out do her LOL) Happy Hunting All Lee Ann Seideman

    3. Hello all, Back from a long weekend. Has anyone heard of a Charlie Magness Barber Shop in Coalgate. On my OXFORD side: Charlie Magness, preformed the weddings in his barber shop, as he was a minister, back in the late 1800's to early 1900's. And if anyone knows if his records are available somewhere? Thank you, Debbie Oxford Long

    1. [OKROOTS-L] Introduction
    2. Michael Harbour
    3. Greetings all, My name is Michael Harbour. I was the third generation of my family to be born in Bartlesville. My great grandfather George McClellan Harbour (obvious Union sympathies) came to the area before statehood, coming from Winfield, KS sooner than the land rush to sell whisky to the Delaware and Cherokee folks in the Strip. My grandfather Ear Jennings Harbour was born in Bartlesville in 1913 and was an Ice Man for the Crystal Ice company in Bartlesville. My father Mike Harbour was born there in '37. He married a Bartlesville girl, Jacquie Lawver in 1955. Dad had moved to Dewey (home of Tom Mix!) with his family. Dad worked at a teller for the First national Bank of Dewey for a while. Then he was a vice president of Heat Transfer Research Inc, a subsidiary of Phillips Petroleum. I was born in Bartlesville in '59. I attended school in Dewey. Graduated from high school in Tulsa (Memorial '77) and attended OU, but finished my undergrad years later at SFA in Nacogdoches, Texas. I have been living south of the border (The Red) for the last 18 years. Two years ago I moved to Wichita Falls, which is just south of my home land. I ran across this discussion list and look forward to the conversations with all of you. Michael Harbour Loop Eleven church of Christ Wichita Falls, Texas mharbour@wf.net

He was driving out the range when he noticed everyone was diving for cover. He couldn't imagine what was going on until he looked behind him. There was a tornado coming directly for him. He sped up and made it to safety. I don't remember the whole story. Maybe the person is on this list and can relate to story in it's entirety. 3. They are called "North Base" & "South Base". North Base is where Westheimer Field (airport) is. Small business jets and private planes land there. When I was growing up near there, one of the flight plans used to go fairly near my house. South Base is east of the University. Some of the old WWII temporary buildings are still there on both bases which are owned by the University. Businesses have located on North Base, also the YMCA and the National Severe Storms Laboratory is there. For years, there was a huge man-made hill near I-35 & Robinson, it was quite a landmark. I think it was a target range in the war. You knew when you drove passed it going south that you had reached Norman. In recent years, dirt has been taken from it to use as fill, it has really destroyed the shape. Dana VWaters972@aol.com wrote: > WHAT EVER HAPPENED TO THE NAVAL AIR TRAINING SCHOOL IN NORMAN, OK ? 1. [OKROOTS-L] Stone/Macwaters can I get birth certificates for 1908-09
    2. Jimmy Gilpatrick
    3. I have just begun researching my Stone/Macwater ancestors according to the death certificate of my grandfather and grandmother I have: Granddad: Eugene Vernon Stone Born: November 19, 1908 in Oklahoma. (I have no idea if he had siblings or not) D: March 17, 1991 Parents: Walter F. Stone birthplace: Oklahoma Mary McWaters birthplace: Arkansas Grandmother: Lizzie May Macwaters-Stone Born: March 5, 1908 in Oklahoma (she had 3 sisters living as of her death on Feb. 21, 1988) Parents: Arthur Macwaters birthplace: Arkansas Julia Rogers birthplace: Texas My question is can I get a copy of Vernon's and Lizzie's birth certificates? When did Oklahoma start recording births? I have no idea what county. Their children were also born in OK but sometime around 1950 or earlier they moved to Arizona and then to California in the late 1950's. Where do I write for this information and how much does it cost? Is there a Historical Society that has this information? I was going to write to social security and get their applications but that could take at least 3 months to get, I hear. I got the soundex for 1910 and was not able to locate Eugene Vernon on it. I know that the death certificates are only as reliable as the person giving the information, but at least they know more than I do. Does this family sound familiar to anyone. Any help or suggestions would be helpful. Glad to see the tornado did not harm any of my genealogy brothers and sisters. I really enjoy all of the stories and information that this list gives. This is a very informative and friendly bunch of people. I have been in the background just watching. I am also in the process of typing out the soundex roll that I have for Oklahoma right now. There are some really interesting names on this roll, also there are quite a few Indians on it. The soundex roll I have is T1273 - 114 OK S340 - S360, the first name on the roll is S340 STELLE, SAMUEL and goes on from there so any names before him would be on the previous roll which I do not have. If anyone needs a look up let me know. Leona jimg@mlode.com

Or in the bathroom with a mattress over your head. The first tornado I remember was when I was 5 years old, I was looking out the picture window all goggle-eyed and Dad was screaming at mom to get the kids in the bathroom. Mom yanked me away from the picture window and dragged me down the hall to the bathroom. The toilet flushed and started gurgling, and Dad went to the front door to try and open it, but it was vacuum shut. Just then the roof came off and flew away and I shut my eyes and thought I would open them to the Land of OZ. When I opened them there were hundreds of frogs in the house. (It had lifted them from a creek nearby and deposited them in the house) We called the creek "Lightning Creek" tho its real name was Oak creek. It is now called Lightning Creek officially. We used to go down there on hot summer days and go crawdad hunting. Nalora
