The newspapers of Haskell County are now available in book form if anyone is interested. I don't have mine yet, but its on order. I have seen them though, and there is some wonderful information in them. I don't know much about them, but I do know that there are over 100 pages in each book, and they have Birth, Marriage, and Death notices, also the court news, and some other interesting things. If you are interested just email Debbie, the person that has made them available for any and all of us. [email protected] Swingn " F " Cattle Co. Hi! I am looking for Frank B. Flora's families. Frank was born in 1869. I don't know where he was born at and who his families are. I would like to know if he has any siblings and what their names are. I also would like to know who his parents are. Frank married Belle. I don't know Belle's maiden last name. They have 6 children. Their names are: Hazel, Ona, Mary Alice, Chester David, and the twins Pearl and Sydney. Chester, Ona, and Sydney are deceased. Anyone know anything about Frank and Belle....please let me know. Thank you! Sincerely, Jeanne
Vickie, I don't find that there ever was an obit listed in the Tulsa World newspaper for Mr. Anglin. (www.tulsaworld.com) But I did find two mentions of his passing under the notices of death. Perhaps in the local Pryor newspaper he had an obit submitted by family members? In the 12/3/1999 Tulsa World (OK) newspaper under Out of Area Death notices, under the city of Pryor: Pryor -- Shannon Francis Anglin, 86, retired automobile dealership service manager, died Thursday. Services pending. Jim Green. And on 12/6/1999 it was listed again under Out of Area Deaths: Pryor -- Shannon Francis Anglin, 86, retired automobile dealership service manager, died Thursday. Services 2 p.m. Thursday, Church of Christ, Lamar. Jim Green. Vickie, Go to this site: http://www.ok-history.mus.ok.us/tablhtml.html Find a newspaper on microfilm for your area date, then go to your local library and request and inter library loan for the item. If available, it should be sent to your local library for you to view yourself and copy the obituary that you find. I can not say if it is true or not, but discussions of the subject on some other lists have been very disruptive. Many people had opinions, others had questions, and others asked that the discussion be stopped or taken elsewhere. Hi all - It has come to my attention that a personal e-mail message of mine regarding my opinion of a commercial genealogy web site was forwarded to various mailing lists without my permission. I want it to be clearly understood that this e-mail message was private and was not intended to be distributed to the general public without my knowledge. I did not give permission for the message to be forwarded to any individuals or mailing lists. I now ask that you not forward this message any further, to any more people or e-mail mailing lists. I live in the Richmond, VA area and there are lots of places with the Tuckahoe name here, ie. Tuckahoe Shopping Square, Tuckahoe Elementary School, Tuckahoe Voting District , and I believe Thomas Jefferson either lived on the Tuckahoe Plantation or went to school there in his youth. I have never heard of Tuckahoe Cherokees. I believe that any Cherokees that ever lived in central VA were long gone by the early 1700s. I would be interested to know if anyone knows of a Cherokee connection. Char, The Genealogy Detective is a research Program... they spent over a year getting links and sources most of us never even knew existed. It is really great for the Amateur or Novice. I personally spent much more than that on a family History book that was 15 years out of date.....8-( [email protected] wrote: > In a message dated 2/24/00 7:38:18 PM Central Standard Time, > [email protected] writes: > > << > The software product I think was genealogy detective, not one of those cheap clones.. which flood the markets. > I bought a copy and found it one of the best, and probably > the easiest to use. I've never 'donated' my gedcom to them; but I accept that businesses take & sell our gedcoms. Family Tree Maker has been doing THAT for some time now. I figure, as long as I know about it in the beginning, its up to me whether or not I give them my information. As far as their services, I never paid for anything. I did the transcription. It amounted to about 10 names for an hour's worth of service. Didn't seem that hard to me, but I'm a pretty quick typist. The end result is that I did connect with a gedcom they had that I've not found anywhere else, and if the person who submitted it responds (they didn't give an email address, so I've had to contact them thru snailmail), I'll have one branch of the family back to the colonies. At least I have the name of the town the family came from in New Hampshire, and that was worth its weight in gold! I guess individual results will vary; but it worked for me. ~*~Lissa~*~ Rootsweb Sponsor

Does anyone know if past publications of the periodical "Dusty Trails" are available and if so, where. What I'm trying to get a hold of is a cemetery listing for Whitefield Cemetery, located in Haskell County, Whitefield Oklahoma. In our local library I found the following information: Whitefield Cemetery Dusty Trails F693-D974 Periodicals....June-Sep and Dec 1978. Need help with this one. Thanks Larry GOSNELL

Hi! I am a new subscriber here! Looking for any Lockwoods and Burleys out there! Hoping to find cousins to share family info with! Thanks all! Michele Lockwood
I found this bit of historical information interesting. If you disagree please hit the delete button. What a difference a century makes . . . . * The average life expectancy in the US was forty-seven. * Only 14 Percent of the homes in the US had a bathtub. * Only 8 percent of the homes had a telephone. A three-minute call from Denver to New York City cost eleven dollars. * There were only 8,000 cars in the US and only 144 miles of paved roads. * The maximum speed limit in most cities was 10 mph. * Alabama, Mississippi, Iowa, and Tennessee were each more heavily populated than California. With a mere 1.4 million residents, California was only the 21st most populous state in the Union. * The tallest structure in the world was the Eiffel Tower. * The average wage in the US was 22 cents an hour. The average US worker made between $200 and $400 per year. * A competent accountant could expect to earn $2000 per year, a dentist $2,500 per year, a veterinarian between $1,500 and $4,000 per year, and a mechanical engineer about $5,000 per year. *More the 95 percent of all births in the US took place at home. * Ninety percent of all US physicians had no college education. Instead, they attended medical schools, many of which were condemned in the press and by the government as "substandard". * Sugar cost four cents a pound. Eggs were fourteen cents a dozen. Coffee cost fifteen cents a pound * Most women only washed their hair once a month and used borax or egg yolks for shampoo. * Canada passed a law prohibiting poor people from entering the country for any reason, either as travelers or immigrants. * The five leading causes of death in the US were: 1. Pneumonia and influenza; 2. Tuberculosis; 3. Diarrhea; 4. Heart disease; 5. Stroke. * The American flag had 45 stars. Arizona, Oklahoma, New Mexico, Hawaii and Alaska hadn't been admitted to the Union yet. * Drive-by shootings in which teenage boys galloped down the street on horses and started randomly shooting at houses, carriages, or anything else that caught their fancy- were an ongoing problem in Denver and other cities in the West. * The population of Las Vegas, Nevada was 30. The remote desert community was inhabited by only a handful of ranchers and their families. * Plutonium, insulin, and antibiotics hadn't been discovered yet. Scotch tape, crossword puzzles, canned beer, and iced tea hadn't been invented. * There were no Mother's Day or Father's Day. One in ten US adults couldn't read or write. Only 6 percent of all Americans had graduated from high school. * Some medical authorities warned that professional seamstresses were apt to become sexually aroused by the steady rhythm, hour after hour, of the sewing machine's foot pedals. They recommended slipping bromide - which was thought to diminish sexual desire - into the women's drinking water. * Marijuana, heroin, and morphine were all available over the counter at corner drugstores. According to one pharmacist, "Heroin clears the complexion, gives buoyancy to the mind, regulates the stomach and the bowels, and is, in fact, a perfect guardian of health." * Coca-Cola contained cocaine instead of caffeine. * Punch -card data processing had recently been developed, and early predecessors of the modern computer were used for the first time by the government to help compile the 1900 census. * Eighteen percent of households in the US had at least one full-time servant or domestic. * There were about 230 reported murders in the US annually.
