I am trying to find info on my Greatgrandfather William Joseph Dickerson and his wife Nora Morgan. William came to Oklahoma in 1890 with his mother Sarah Arnett Dickerson and his daughter Bessie Dickerson, from Wayne County ,Tennessee. Bessie was by his first wife.William and Nora had Joe (Joseph) and Kenneth Dickerson. It is said that William Dickerson was the sheriff in Pottawatomie County, Oklahoma. Most of the history after he got to Oklahoma is sketchy. Thank You, Dawn Taylor
Well, Paula, it sounds like everyone (majority anyway) would like it posted so they know the answer, too. The only reason I know it , is because I posted you query to an Indian list. I'd post it. It's certainly not clutter! It was not shared, but restricted. However, we all have the right to make judgment calls, right or wrong. Sorry, Laura for frustrating you after your genuine attempt to be of help. Robert.

I have to go along with Wylene here. I've been on a busy list in California where they have several volunteers who do a huge volume of look-ups -- there are days when there are easily over 75 messages. All responses to requests are posted to the list. This includes the first response from the volunteer who will do the look-up, then they post their look-up results, (usually) followed by a thank-you from the requester. List clutter? That's what I thought when I first signed up. Not at all. The first reply posted to the list is so that everyone knows someone has volunteered to do the look-up -- no duplication of effort. The look-up results are on list because there might be more than one person interested in the answer and that answer will be in the searchable archives. The thank you onlist probably isn't necessary, but some folks are a bit thoughtless. Seeing all those thank yous makes them remember to send one when they owe it. Now, the most important part of all this to this Oklahoma list is the part about searchable archives. If all the answers are off-list then someone who signs up a month or a year from now won't be able to get that answer. Think what a resource those archives could be and should be! This is a request to please post all answers to the list. Oh -- and good luck with your research, Elizabeth Richardson, Ketchikan, Alaska [email protected] ><< At this point I give up. This is a conversation I am having with someone that may not be on the list. I just thought I would share with everyone. As I said, I have pictures of the McCalls, Chaney's, and some Allen's if anyone is interested. Myrtle and Henry lived in Blair, OK, raising all their children on a farm there. There will be a reunion of the Chaney's and Stidham's near Altus in July if anyone out there is interested. Paula, I know what you are talking about with the listers in this case. I am new by about 1 1/2 months to Lists, I have run across and seen some really petty and nasty backbiting. As for the man and his dislikes.... He was off base on this one. If he continues to bother you, put a block on his emails to you. Now, I just delete the nasty letters, I can't do anything about it, so why waste my time responding, and that, responding, usually results in more nastiness etc. Cheer up, you did okay in my books. I find each list manager runs her/his site in their own manner, some say write privately and others let you write on the list. I personally like reading some of the answers and I do learn from them. Like you said you can't please everyone. Bobbie.
Poo on the complainers. I would like to know if headright monies were sent out in the 50's. Something just dawned on me last night. I received monies for something in the 50's and I would like to know how one goes about seeing if they already have a roll number. Ditsy National Domestic Violence Hot Line (1-800-799-SAFE)

How do you block an individual? I have a MAC and AOL. When I looked at the instructions (I.should say I am not very technical) I couldn't see how to do just one person -- it looked like a whole group. I do not say this lightly either, I own a genealogy list, and we, (me and the other two managers that help me) require that everything be on list. Other wise what good is this list, if not for sharing. Without it we might just as well get our note books and pencils and trot back down to the library and research the old way. I say everything should be on the list! Wylene Alston

Their complaint took up the list and also was very inconsiderate of the rest of us and rude to you. Shame on you people! Cheryl in TX.

Listers, The reason I asked for those interested in the information I received on Headrights to email me privately is because there are several emails I received and I didn't want to take up time and space for those not interested. I have copied and pasted each email on to one email for those interested and have sent it to them. I can't win for losing. I received 3 different emails from one man, because of his dislike of the type of requests and what he called abuse of the lists and he wasn't referring to just me, as if I have control. Then I receive one from a man tonight telling me I should be ashamed of myself by asking everyone to email me privately for the information and not posting it on the list. At this point I give up. This is the first time I felt I could share something of genealogy interest to some others and all I have received is grief. It's a wonder anyone helps anyone any more. Paula in Oregon
I believe I have replied to all of those requesting this information about Headrights. If I left you out please email me privately and I will send it to you. I had several requests and may have accidentally left someone out. Paula in Oregon
"Thank You" to all the wonderful people that furnished me with information on Headrights. I appreciate your time and help. Anyone wanting the information I received may email me privately and I will be happy to share. Paula in Oregon [email protected]
