Jarnagin was born December 6, 1917, in Sweetwater to Dora and Marion Francis Jarnagin. He passed away January 30, 2009 in Sayre at the age of 91 years, 1 month and 24 days. Melvin grew up in the Sweetwater community where he attended school. After school he farmed and went to barber school in 1933. He began cutting hair in Reydon and Sweetwater before there was electricity. He married Margaret Gwendine Sites in 1938. He entered the United States Army and served his country during World War II in the European Theatre. He was married to Dorothy Jean (Tinsley) Atchley at Houston, Texas on May 3, 1972, and they made their home west of Sayre. He was preceded in death by his parents, first wife, 1 daughter, Millicent Faye Marshall, 5 brothers and sisters. He is survived by his Wife, Dorothy, of the home; two Sons, Larry Jarnagian and wife, Linda, Elk City; and Marion Jarnagin and wife, Pat, Midway, KY; one step daughter, Gayla Morsman, Edmond; two stepsons, Larry Atchley and wife, Sherry, Wilson, Oklahoma; and Roger Atchley and wife, Doris, Oklahoma City; 15 grandchildren, 29 great grandchildren, and a host of other relatives and friends. Services were held Wednesday, February 4, 200 at 2 p.m. at Sweetwater First Baptist Church officiated by Charlie Floyd.
