Lucas was born in Peru, Ind., Miami County December 16, 1871. He departed this life July 23, 1932 at the age of 61 years 7 months 8 days. He was married to Mary Shafer November 16, 1892 and to this union were born 8 children who are: John, Floria, Elsie, Fred, Delbert, Hallie, Nene and Jack and 9 grandchildren all of Crawford, Oklahoma. All were by his side at the time of his death. He also leaves a brother, Frank, of Peru, Indiana. He came to Oklahoma in 1902 and homesteaded on the place where he resided at the time of his death. He died from cancer. Everything was done to cure him but to no avail. He was a devoted and loving husband and father. He was laid to rest in the Silent Home Cemetery, Roll, Roger Mills County, Oklahoma, Sunday afternoon July 24, 1932 in the presence of a large crowd of neighbors and friends. Fatheree Funeral directors had charge of the burial. (Cheyenne Star, July 28-, 1931)
