Underwood, who resided about 6 milessouthwest of Cheyenne was instantly killed by lightning Sunday September 7, 1913 about 6 o'clock p.m. Mr. Underwood, wife and children had just returned from church at Needmore and had just driven up into the yard when the lightning struck him. Mr. and Mrs. Underwood and one of the little girls were sitting in the fron seat of the wagon. Mrs. Underwood and little girl were shockedc some but not seriously injured. Mr. Underwood never spoke after the bolt of lightning struck him. Other members of the family and some neghbor girls were in the wagon but none injured. Mr. Underwood was born at Liesville, Texas, December 20, 1876. Married Miss Katie Gaube at Shinet, Texas, October 22, 1902. They came to Oklahoma immediately and have been residents of this county since. Three children were born to this union, two boys and one girl, all of whom, are living. Mr. Underwood was a highly respected citizen and had a legion of friends in this section of the state. He was a member of the Methodist church South, and the I.O.O.F. lodge of this place. The lodge conducted the burial rites at the Cheyenne cemetery, Cheyenne, Roger Mills County, Oklahoma Monday afternoon. The Sentinel joins with their many friends here in extending sympathy to the bereft family.
