West was born in Johnston County, Texas, October 7, 1871. He was married to Margretta Ann Smith November 6, 1898 and to this union 8 children were born. He with his family moved to Greer County in November 1901 and suffered many hardships along with other pioneers. He came to Roger Mills County in October 1918 where eh remained until his death, having lived a long, useful life with his family and friends. Monday morning, January 24, 1949 he passed away at the age of 77 years, 3 months and 17 days. Those who survive him are tow sons, Ernest West of Reydon, Oran of Bakersfield, Califnornia; 4 daughters, Mrs. Lillie Brown of Oklahoma City, Mrs. Serrintha Kenmore of Duke, Okla.; Mrs. Opal Dewees of Cornoa, Calif.; Mrs. Ruby Brown of Reydon; 15 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren. His wife, one daughter and one son preceded him in death. Services were held Wednesday, January 26, 1949 at 1:oo p.m. from the First Baptist Church of Reydon with Rev. Horace Woodward officiating. The Fatheree Funeral Home of Erick was in charge of arrangement with interment in the Strong City cemetery, Strong City, Roger Mills County, Oklahoma. Those from a distance attending the funeral were Mr. and Mrs. Opal Dewees, Corona, California, Oran West, Bakersfield, California, Mr. and Mrs. J.R. Kenmore and daughters, Colleen, Patricia Ann and Miss Arlene, and sons, Raymodn Kenmore, wife and son, Lowell Kenmore, wife and daughter, all of Duke, Oklahoma. (Cheyenne Star February 3, 1949)
