He lived in that state until 1905 at which time he came to Oklahoma. He lived alone on his farm until about two years ago, when on account ofhis age, he began to make his home with his niece Mrs.W.C. Tomlinson. Uncel Vent was a veteran of the Civil War having fough under Robert E. Lee. He was thorougly alive to the present issue and was wholly patrioric. He daily perused every newspaper and magazine about him, eager to learn of America's affairs and was one of the best informed men in his community. Mr. Thomas was a member of the Christian Church having professed Christianity at an early date in life. Unclike many who live to be his age Uncle Vent was free from the usual infirmities of old age. Up until his last sickness he was quite active being able to care for his own affairs and to ride or drive about the country as he pleased. He was the last survivor of his immediate family. His brother D.T. Thomas having passed into that realm beyond in December. Uncle Vent leaves five nephews, five nieces and many grand-nieces and nephews of our acquaintance, and a host of friends who will greatly miss him. Two nephews and two nieces; J.W. Thomas, H.M. Thomas, Mrs. G.A. Watson and Mrs. W.C. Tominson live near Durham; one nephew, Elbert F. Thomas is in the army; and Mrs. D.T. Thomas and the others reside at pampa, Texas. To them we extend our sincere sympathy.. May they when their time comes to pass into that great beyond leave behind them a life full of useful fruitfulness.
