Bowers was born in Jackson County, Alabama, August 8, 1847, was united in marriage to Miss Sarah Thomas in 1867. To this union were born six children. They are Mary, Ben, Tom, Daisy, Maud and Walter. All were present at his death except Walter, who lives in Paris, Texas and Daisy, Maud and Mary who preceded him in death. They moved to Van Buren, Arkansas where Sarah, his wife, passed away in 1881 at the age of thirty-six. In 1887 he was united in marriage of Mrs. Fanie Goforth in Lamar County, Texas. To this union were born four children. They are: Earl, Frank, Iris and Ralph. All were present at his deat except Iris who died at the age of thirteen. They moved to Roger Mills County, Oklahoma nine miles southwest of Cheyenne where he lived until Saturday when he went to Tom Bowers to spend the night where he died Wednesday, December 29, 1926 at 7:00 o'clock a.m., at the age of 79 years, 4 months and 21 days. He leaves to mourn his loss a wife, six sons, six daughters-in-law, one stepchild, Monroe Goforth, who lives at Baskin, Louisiana, thirty grandchildren, five great grandchildren and a host of other relatives and friends. Mr. Bowers united with the Methodist church in Ellis County, Texas in 1879. The funeral was held in Needmore school house December 30, 1926 conducted by C.C. Wilson, pastor of the Methodist church of Cheyenne; burial took place in the Cheyenne cemetery, Cheyenne, Roger Mills County, Oklahoma. (Cheyenne Star January 6, 1927)
