This summer I received wonderful information on how the track land records of ancestors. I would like to share it in case there are others who do not know the process. 1. I knew about the BLM on-line site where you can search for the land patents. http://www.glorecords.blm.gov/ If you can find your ancestor on this site you can print the land patent and send it directly to the National Archives for copies of the land entry records along w/the Archives order form. 2. If you can not find the land patent at BLM, you may go to Southwest Oklahoma Genalogical Society. http://www.sirinet.net/~lgarris/swogs/tract.html SWOG searches the records and will send a copy of the page where your ancestors land is recorded. With the patent number you can go to the National Archives for copies of the land entry files. Even though I found the land patent on the BLM site I am so glad I ordered the page from SWOG. I found neighbors listed and recogized several names. 3. You can order the forms from the Archives on-line. http://www.nara.gov/research/ordering/ordrfrms.html I found out so much valuable information from the land entry records...exact death date of my 3ggrandmother, where all the children were living when she died, a copy of her will etc. Mine was possibly an unusual case where my 3ggrandmother had died before completion of the time to be on the land.
