Meyer, 78 of Las Cruces, New Mexico, passed away April 3, 2002 at Mimbres Memorial Hospital in Deming, New Mexico after a short illness. He was born on April 22, 1923 in Leedey, Oklahoma, to Arnold and Katie Meyer. Before retirement in 1979, Vernon was a welder an d mechanic. He served in the Navy during World War II. Vernon had lived in southern New Mexico for 48 years. Survivors include his loving wife of 55 years, Lelah, four daughters and one son: Linda M. Morgan and husband Loyd, Verna Jean Martin and husband Rickey, Judith K. Glimp and husband Rick, David E. Meyer and wife Twila, and Darla R. Zarzecki aand husband John. Vernon was preceded in death by his parents of Upland, California, son Gary Don of Las Cruces and sister Vada Goins of California. Other survivors include seven grandchildren, eight great grandchildren and two brothers, Delbert I. Meyer and wife Wanda of Leedey, Oklahoma and H. Dale Meyer and wife Pauline of Phelen, California, as well as many nieces, nephews and cousins. Funeral serves were held at Red Star Breethren in Christ Church near Leedey, Oklahoma on Monday, April 8, 2002, with Interment following at Red Staar Cemetery under the direction of Shaw Funeral home in Leedey.
