When Worth was 20 he left Texas and moved to Oklahoma. Soon after this he was taken into the service of his country in World War I where he spent two and a half years in the United States Navy, as a fireman First Class. After discharge from the service he was one of the first veterans in his locality to become a member of the American Legion, but in later years became a member of the Veterans Foreighn Wars. In December of 1919 Worth was united in marriage to Bertha Guernsey and the Smalls have two sons, J.E. of Cortez, Colorado and Joe of Nashville, Tennessee. Sometime in 1948 they moved to the Cortez community to live where Mr. Small engage in farming and ranching. For several years he was associated with Boyde Gai in his farming operations. In 1960 he retired from the farm. He united with the First Baptist Church of Strong City, Oklahoma, September 19, 1938, and soon after moving to Cortez, he united with the First Baptist Church there. He was an active member since that time. he last few years Mr. Small has been in ill health which much of the time hindered his regular attendance however, he was a faithful listener to moring services as they were broadcast over the local station. Worth passed away very suddenly Sunday afternoon March 9, 1969. He leaves his wife Bertha of Cortez, a son J.E. Small of Cortez and another son Joe of Nashville as well as six grandchildren. Two sisters and five brothers preceded Worth in death but he has yet one living brother, Ralph of Bushey, Montana and two sisters, Mrs. Hester Holmes, of Shamrock, Texas, and Mrs. Vera Johnson of Ft. Payne, Ala. Worth made friends easily and alway appreciated them. He was fond of his home and often in recent years expressed deep sincere love and appreciation for his wife.
