Services were held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, January 24, 2002 at the Methodist church of Reydon, Oklahoma with Pastors, Andy Taylor and Daryle Perry with Trinity Fellowship Church in Sayre, Oklahoma officiating. Graveside services were held at 2:00 p.m. Thursday Janury 24, 2002 in Edith Ford Memorial Cemetery, Canadian, Hemphill County, Texas by Stickley-Hill Funeral Directors. Mrs. Stickley was born November 25, 1910 NW of Rankin, Oklahoma to William Chauncey and Ceclia Julia Burke Swope. She was one of eight children. She attended school in Santa Fe, New Mexico. Mrs. Sticley attended Loretta Heights in Denver, Colorado and the college in Weatherford, Oklahoma. She returned to Midway and taught three graades for a few years. Mrs. Stickley married David Huston "Hoot" Stickley on September 7, 1932 in Sayre, Oklahoma. He died on November 25, 1981. She was a member of the Roman Catholic Church, American Legion Auxiliary, and the Reydon Garden Club. "Hoot aand Viv" loved to play pitch with family, friends and neightbors for many years. She had a variety of interest one of which was basketball. Unknown to most, she played basketball at the school she attended in New Mexico, traveling to Colorado and the surrounding area. Women's basketball courtsd at that time were divided into three sections, with two palyers in each section, she played th! e center section. Mrs. Stickley had a green thumb and loved to plant flowers. Her flower gardens were a blaze of color and she oftern brought wildflowers in from the pastures to transplant into selected area of her yard. She knew all the wild flowers and could identify most of the birds in western Oklahoma and the Texas Panhandle. "Hoot and Viv" lived on the Stickley home place in the south eaast corner of Hemphill County, near Reydon, Oklahoma. She was a true rancher's wife, taking her good home cooking out to the cowboys during round up time with her merry Irish laugh and gentle compassion. Mrs. Stickley also had a fighting Irish spirit that neither the depression nor the loss of their home to fire could dim her bright outlook on life. The Lord blessed "Hoot and Viv's" home with a daughter who was the light of their lives. They were class parents for Ellen's class and help take seventeen students to New Orleans. Her grandchildren were her pridxe and joy and as lon! g as her health permitted she took part in their activities. "Viv" was a friend and inspiration to all who knew her and will be missed by her family and friends. Survivors include: 1 daughter and son-in-law, Ellen and Ed Wesner, the Stickley Homeplade; 1 granddaughter, Sara Wesner, 1 grandson Chauncey Wesner; sister-in-law, Jessie Fry of Canadian. She was preceded in death by seven brothers and sisters: Ed Swope, Leo Swope, Sr., Mary Trammell, Irene Barbee, Cecilia O'Hearn, Nell York and Genevieve Redden. Cheyenne Star, Cheyenne, OK
