He died June 7, 2002 in Tulsa, Oklahoma. He was born and grew to manhood, five miles northwest of Durham, Oklahoma on the farm where his Grandfather Porter staked a claim in the C. and A. Land Run on April 19, 1892. J.L. graduated from Durham High School in 1940. He then went to Chicago where he attended Coyne Electrical School. After finishing the training he went to Tulsa, Oklahoma, where he worked many years in construction as an Electrician. Memberships include the Local 584 Union, Masonic Lodge #71, Tulsa Scottish Rite, Akdar Shrine and was active in the Akdar Shrine bowling league. Survivors include wife, Edna L. Porter; daughter, Peggy Porter Tierney, Silver Springs, Maryland, Jeanie Vaughn, Tulsa, Joey Walfe, Tulsa and Sandy Staica, Cerritas, California; son James Scott Porter, Yakima, WA; 15 grandchildren, 10 great grandchildren; 1 brother, Henry Porter, Jr., Durham, Oklahoma; sisters, Mary Frances Fielding and Pauline Lippencott, Cheyenne, Ok; nieces, Jan Bailey, Strong City, Oklahoma and Donna Horton, Rutland, Vermont; nephews, Terry Fielding, Pago Pago, Samoa and Steve Lippencott, Cheyenne, Oklahoma. He was preceded in death by his parents and his first wife, Betty Porter. Funeral services was Tuesday June 11, 2002 in the Floral Haven Funeral Home Chapel, officiaated by Reverend Merton Leigh. Burial followed at Garden of Apotles, Floral Haven Memorial Gardens, Broken Arrow, Oklahoma. Cheyenne Star, Cheyenne, OK 20-Jun-2002
