Burial will be at Calvary Cemetery, Elk City, Beckham County, Oklahoma under the direction of Whinery-Savage Funeral Service. Maria delSocorro Butcher was born March 18, 1932 in Ft. Riley, Kansas to Rosa and Isaac "Bud" Cole. She died Satruday December 8, 2001 in the Great Plains Regional Medical Center, Elk City, at the age of 89. Maria moved with her parents to Abilene, Kansas where she graduated from High School. She was married to Jack Douglas Butcher at Salina, Kansas on January 23, 1952. Jack served his country in the United States Navy and the family moved with him all over the world. They moved to Elk City in 1964 where her husband was the Naval Recruiter. In 1968 the family moved to Cheyenne to make their home. She lived with her daughter, Mary Kay in Weatherford from 1992 until 1997 when they moved back to Elk City. She moved into Jayce Village in 1999. She was a member of St. Matthew Catholic Church. Maria was involved in many note worth activities. She was the Educational Director at Clinton Sherman Air Force Base. As a mother to four sons, Maria was active in helping the Boy Scouts of American. She was a member of the Catholic Womens Gild, Stephen Minister, Lector, for St. Matthews Catholic Church. She served as a member of Epsilon Sigma Alpa and received the FVirst Pearl award. She was elected as officer of the chapter. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; two daughters, Baby Butcher and Maria Theresa Courtney; three brothers; and one sister. Survivors include six children and spouses, John and Gloria Butcher of St. Louis, Missouri, George and Edith Butcher of Anaheim, California, James and Robin Butcher of Elk City, Victor Butcher of Longbeach, California, Jacqaueline and Carey Bradley of Brandon, Florida, Mary Kay and Ron Babcock of Hillsboro, Oregon; one brother, Henry Cole of Seattle, Washington; eight grandchildren; three great grandchildren; and a host of other relatives and friends.
