The Oklahoma Archives is in need of people to fill the position of archivists for several counties, and for parts of the Indian Nations/Territories. http://www.rootsweb.com/~usgenweb/ok/okfiles.htm Why do the archives exist? The archives fill a roll in the preservation of genealogical information on the web in that all archives submissions are permanent, the information will not leave or otherwise be removed irregardless of who the archivist may be at the time. In some cases, the information in the archives will be a duplicate of what is on a county site, and in other cases, it will be information not on a county site but that can be linked to it. Why duplicate? First, the majority of information in the archives is in text format. This has stood the test of time in that it can be read no matter what system or browser is being used, and will be there no matter what advances take place in the future. Second, so far the text format has proven to be unaffected by virus’s that love to work on html formats.
