J.T. Ackley, 64 years old, pioneer of this county, was fatally injured Sunday afternoon when he was struck by a southound M-K-T passenger train at the crossing on state highway 34 just north of Hammon. Mr. Ackley was returning to his home in a Chevrolet pick-up car. He drove onto the railroad crossing near the intersection on highway 34 and 33 as the train approached. The left side of the engine beam struck the automobile just back of the hood. Mr. Ackley received a severe fracture of the base of the skull, also a broken collar bone, broken shoulder and several broken ribs. The injury to the skull was given as the cause of death. James Thedore Ackley was born in the state of Ohio, Feburary 22, 1869 and died August 20, 1933, at Hammon, Oklahoma, at the age of 64 years, 6 months and 2 days. He came to Oklahoma in 1891, was married to Miss Flora Walker of Butler September 7, 1897, and to this union were born eight children, all of whom with his wife survive him. They are Mrs. Retta Creswell, George, Reed, Walker, Buford, Emory and Glenwood of Hammon and Hammon of Chicago. He is also survived by three brothers and one sister, only one of whom Bob Ackley of Grandfield, Oklahoma attended his funeral obsequies. Deceased's remains were returned to his home Monday, and at two o'clock Tuesday afternoon, at the Church of Christ he funeral, conducted by elder McGaughey, was held The churcdh edifice was taxed to its utmost capacity to accommodate the immense assembly of friends who came to pay the last mark of respect to the memory of the Hammon pionewer interment was madse in Red Hill Cemetery where the remains were gently laid to rest.
