Mr. Mitchell's colorful newspaper life in western Oklahoma began at Grand, county seat of Day County, where he and his brother E.L. Mitchell established a weekly newspaper. The Caanadian Valley Echo. In the reorganization of Oklahoma after statehoodd in 1907, Day County was left off the map and Grand was no longer a county seat town. The Mitchell's came to Cheyenne where Dick established the Roger Mills Sentinel. When Strong City showed signs of becoming quite a city he moved there and operated a newspaper. Later he moved to Clinton where he established the Clinton Chronical. Later he published the Arapaho Bee in Arapaho. Dick Mitchell was one who stood by his friends with all of the force of his newspaper. He was a goods thinker and a good writer. His weekly column "Dicktaphonees" contained pertinent paragrapsh on issues of the day. His wit expressed in the paragraphs made this column quite interesting. While in Cheyenne Dick Mitchell married Myrtle Repass, a teacher from the Grimes community. After her deaath and while residing in Clinton he married Mrs. Madden who died several years ago. In his later years he resided with his daughter, Ione, Mrs. Rex Madden in Clinton. Cheyenne Star, Cheyenne, OK
