She passed away Saturday, October 14, 2006 at the Leedey Nursing Center. She attended Texamo, Osceola, and Prairie Star Schools before graduating at Leedey in 1932. She was very proud to have been recognized as the oldest graduate in the 2006 Leedey School Reunion. At the time she had been out of school for 74 years. Doris Steiger and Lee Kauk were married August 22, 1937 south of Aledo. To this union, five children , Jimmy, Marilyn, Larry, Linda and Randy were born. Doris and Lee lived on a farm in the Johnnysville area until 1956. At that time Lee went to work on the road construction and they lived in over 30 towns in Oklahoma before Lee retired in 1978. They moved back to Leedey in 1980 and Lee died in 1994. Doris was a member of the First Baptist Church in Leedey and attended the church services there until she moved to the Leedey Nursing Center. She attemded services at the nursing center until the last two weeks of her life. Doris loved her church, her family, her sister, Sis, and enjoyed any time she could spend visiting with family and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, Charley and Myrtle Steiger, and by her husband, Lee. Doris is survived by her five children, Jimmy Kauk and wife LaVonned, of Leedey, Oklahoma, Marilyn Thurman of Gotebo, Oklahoma, Larry Kauk and wife, Thelma, of Leedey, Oklahoma; Linda Johnson and husband, Donnie, of Cordell, Oklahoma and Randy Kauk, of Ft. Cobb, Oklahoma. She is also survived by her sister, Minnie Ommer, of Okemah, 8 grandchildren, and 4 great grandchildren. Other survivors include: her brothers-in-law, L.D. Kauk and wife Ann, of Baton Rouge, Louisiana, Delbert Kauk and wife, Fern, of Leedey, Oklahoma; sisters-in-law, Ruth Roberts, of Leedey; Bernice Carter of Leedey; and Doris Rhoades, Elk City, many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Services were held on Monday, October 16, 2006 at 2:30 p.m. in the First Baptist Church of Leedey, with Pastor Tim Franks officiating. Interment will follow at New Hermon Cemetery, east of Leedey, under the direction of Shaw Funeral Home of Leedey. Cheyenne Star, Cheyenne, OK 19, 2006
