Author: NativeSpirit Surnames: Compton Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/localities.northam.usa.states.oklahoma.counties.rogermills/8679/mb.ashx Message Board Post: I found a newspaper article about my great-grandmother, who has since passed away. But in this article it states, "After spending a few years touring Kansas and vicinity at the age of five her family came by covered wagon to what is now Cheyenne, OK., then Cheyenne Indian Territory. They homesteaded just across the river from the Cheyenne Indian Reservation and Agency." The article goes on to say she was about 5 years old at the time. She was born in 1887, so this would have been around 1892. I guess my questions are....Are there any records of the settlers of this time period, and are there any maps available of this area? But in this article it states, "After spending a few years touring Kansas and vicinity at the age of five her family came by covered wagon to what is now Cheyenne, OK., then Cheyenne Indian Territory. They homesteaded just across the river from the Cheyenne Indian Reservation and Agency." The article goes on to say she was about 5 years old at the time. She was born in 1887, so this would have been around 1892. I guess my questions are....Are there any records of the settlers of this time period, and are there any maps available of this area? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list.
