Jones age 35 years, who has been working a short time for Mr. M.N. Hudson on Elk Creek, met with a fatal accident last Friday evening, November 3, 1899. Deceased attended a literary society meeting held at Crowe (Elk City) that evening, and was on his way home when his horse ran into a hole in the road. The horse fell violently, dying instantly and its rider was seriously injured that he lived only two hours. In falling the horse turned a complete somersault and it is supposed that he fell on Jones, the horn of saddle striking the man in the stomach and infliciting fatal internal injuries. Cross J.N. Cross, beloved husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather passed away peacefully Tuesday January 6, 2009 after a brief illness. J.N. was born August 7, 1919 in Strong City, Oklahoma and graduated from Cheyenne High School. On April 25, 1940, J.N. married Minnie Mae Watson, the union produced two children. After high school J.N. worked on cattle ranches around Cheyenne and then joined the Oklahoma Highway Patrol. His work with the OHP brought he and Minnie to Guymon, OK in 1954 where he made his home until his death. During his time in Guymon, J.N. served the community first as a city councilman and then as mayor for 12 years while also being an active member of the Guymon chapter of the Kiwanis and helping found Kids Inc. After working for the OHP, J.N.went to work for USF&G Insurance Co. and ran the Guymon claim office for more than 40 years until his retirement. In later life, J.N. an avid horseman, worked mornings and evenings at the Pranch Ranch to! stay close to horses and cattle. J.N. was preceded in death by his father, James N. "Poly" Cross, his mother, Jessie K. "Muz" Cross, his sister, Gertie Rae and one son Billy Von Cross. He is survived by his wife of almost 69 years, Minnie Mae; his son, Jim Cross, his daughter-in-law Marilyn Cross; his beloved granddaughters, Karrie Litherland and Tony Miles; his grandson, Nathan Cross; and his great-grandchildren Linsey Miles, Billy James Cross, Garrison Miles, Emily Cross and Ainsley Cross. Memorials may be made to Baggerley Funeral Home in Edmond or donations may be made in thee honor of Jim Cross to Kids, Inc. of Guymon. Services for James will be 10:00 a.m. Thursday, January 8, 2009, at Baggerley Funeral Home Chapel. Interment will be 11:00 a.m., Friday, January 9, 2009 at Elmhurst Cemetery in Guymon, Oklahoma. Albert and his wife ( Thomas mother )moved down to Oklahoma and lived their last years with there son and daughter-in-law Dora Akers Smith. I know Albert G Smith died 03 May, 1921. She passed away December 13, 2008 in Temple, Oklahoma at the age of 67 years, 4 months and 28 days. Hilda attended Cheyenne Public School before graduating from Sayre High School. She later enlisted in the Army at the age of 17 and moved to Puerto Rico. During her active military service she traveled to Germany, France and Italy. During this time she obtained her LPN license. She worked in the nursing field during her entire working life. When Hilda returned to the states she made her home in Lawton, Oklahoma. Hilda always enjoyed nursing and personally became acquainted with her patients. She was preceded in death by her parents, 5 uncles and 2 aunts. She is survived by her daughter, Carrie Dawn Lovett of Cheyenne, Oklahoma; 1 granddaughter, Bridget Marquee Lovett, 2 grandsons, Joshua Ray Hyman and Caleb Gene Lovett. She is also survived by special friends, Mariles Howard, Kathy Faulkner, Elizabeth Perkins, Doris Blasingame, Betty Folsom and Ray and Pat Bryant. "Buster" Jones, 87, of Salem, OR, formerly of Temple, TX, died December 6, 2008 in Salem hospital after a lengthy illness. Funeral Serivces were held December 11, 2008 in Red Star Brethren in Christ Church with burial following in Red Star Cemetery, Leedey, Oklahoma. Services were performed by the Reverend Ron Winsman. Ira was born June 6, 1921 in Sentinel, Oklahoma to James Wiley and Minnie Elizabeth (Saling) Jones. Ira left home as a young man, headed west, and eventually joined the U.S. Navy serving at Pearl Harbor on December 7, 1941. He was a commercial fisherman, fishing the waters of Alaska for 35 years. In the off season he worked as a commercial building contractor. Ira was preceded in death by his parents, James and Minnie Jones, sisters, Effie Biera and Juanita Walker; brothers, Govel Jones, Houston Jones, Vernon Jones, James Jones, and Earl Jones. He is survived by his wife, Marie, children, Gerald Jones, of Superior, Montanas and Marquetta Munsen of Winterop, Washington; step-childrren, Terry Stanfill, Dee Winsman of Temple, TX, John Stanfill of Vernon, Texas, Zachary Stanfill of Austin, Texas; 19 grandchildren, 37 great grandchildren, two great-great grandchildrern; sister, Faye Soto of LaPlace, LA; brother, Guy Jones of Pealand, TX and many nieces, nephews and friends.
