    1. [OKROGERM] Evans, Laura Virginia Murphy
    2. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Author: WandaPurcell13 Surnames: Evans, Murphy Classification: obituary Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/localities.northam.usa.states.oklahoma.counties.rogermills/8971/mb.ashx Message Board Post: Died at her home in Cheyenne, Tuesday morning, February 16th, 1909. Mrs. Laura Virginia Evans, wife of Sheriff J.M. Evans, aged thirty-six years and twenty-four days. Laura Virginia Murphy was born in Clay County, Missouri, January 22, 1873 and was married to James M. Evans at Rush Springsz, I.T. September 12, 1889. Of this union six children, five gils and one boy, were born, all of whom survive her. All the love and care then an axious and devoted household and skilled physicians could devise and apply for her comfort and assistance were brought into play but the trial of him who rules our incomings and outgoings has been issued and after a brief struggle, despite the prayers and entreaties of all who knew and enjoyed her, their appeals were over ruled and the suffering spirit took its flight to that home and the Christian believes is the fulfilling of the life everylasting. None but those who have sat in the shadow of a great bereavement can justly weight such sorrow as this. Those who have gone down into the valley of suffering and stood for days by the side of a loved one, as hope after hope dropped away as the detals fall from the fading flower, know that such anguish cannot find solace in the kindestg words. She who has gone forth could not be supported on her solitary journey by any earthly friends. The husband, with a devotion few men are capable of whose devotion never faltered, could not detail her by the class of earthly love, but after the last word had been spoken, the last sign of recognition was gone, a look of peace settled on her face which proclaimed, victory and he knew that she was resting on a might arm. Life will never be quite the same to those who knew her, while those who were nearest to her with long for her with unutterable longings; long for a mother's counsel and advice and a wife's gentle and loving sympathy. Her life was gentle but like the still waters it was deep. In her heart or heartss in he carried those she loved, and her hand was never weary, her step never faltered in ministering unto, caring for, and waiting upon those who were in any way deperndent upon her. Much has been taken from the husband and sorrowing children, sweet ties have been severed, but well may they cheridsh her memory as a precious legacy and while we fain would say a word of comfort to the stricken ones, we can but let our tears flow in sympathy with theirs, and point them to the promise, "At eventide it shall be light. The funeral services were held at the Methodist church Wednesday afternoon, Elder Martin, of the Christian church, of which the deceased was as consistent and devout member, officiating, after which the remains were interred in the Cheyenne Cemetery. Bond, near Harrington, February 7, 1909. Thus over a happy home the shadow of a grave has fallen; and as another has said, It is wonderful how long a shadow a littlew grave can throw. This beautiful baby life was so sweet and precious so fraught with blessings to the parents that he seemed a flower from paradise, permitted to bloom for a brief season by their side, then recalled to its native skies, leaving the parents' earth road dark and lonely indeed. Alma Imogene Rounds was a beautiful person with unparalleled spirit. She was born on April 12, 1926 four miles south of Leedey, Oklahoma and passed on to her heavenly home on October 15, 2008 at the age of 82 years. Imogene's parents were John Boone and Grace (Vernon) Graybill. She was blessed to have one younger sister, Christine, and five older brothers, Alvin, Nolan, Otha, Dale, and Ledon that she cared for while she was young, as her moher was ofen ill. She loved her family and Imogene's character and determination was first greatly influenced by caring for and keeping up wih all her brothers and caring for her sister. She loved them dearly. They were a family that promoted individual strength and humor. She credited her mother for instiling in her and teaching her about the love of God that Imogene was known for possesssing until the last momen of her life. She acceptd Jesus as her savior and was baptized at th! e age of ten at the First Baptist Church in Leedey. She spent the rest of her life trying to live as God would have her live. She truly understood he love God provided: relied on the strength he gave her and shared this belief with her words and actions. She categorically knew God was to be put first in a person's life and tried to live to please Him. Imogene attended Pleasant Hill Elemenary School through the 6th grade in a one room school house, walking to school more than a mile away. Then she completed her high school education at Leedey High school finishing third in her graduating class. Aftr graduation, she met and married Cecil C. Rounds on September 28, 1945. She moved to Aledo, Oklahoma and was delighted to tell everyone that she had ther same addresss for 80 years. Cecil and Imogene had a wonderful relationship sharing laughter and love. After nine years of marriage, they added to their family on August 19, 1954 when they had identical twin daughters, Karla Deanne and Marla Jeannie. As the girls were born prematuely. After she and Cecil were married, she taught school in a one room school house and worked at the Aledo General Store for a short period of time. After she had Karla she returned to homemaking and to being a full tim4e mother and she was good at it. Imogene excelled at anything she decided to do. She would often say, "If it isn't woth doing right it isn't worth doing at all,." She was an accomplished oil painting artist, winning many awards among which were having her oil painting chosen to be on the cover of he Dobson Telephone Company directory. She had many special gifts including, ! cake decorating, china painting, drawing, pastels, quilting, crocheting and sewing. She avidly loved gardening and loved flowers. She worked in her yard until she entered the hospital 3 days before her death. She had many, many talents but what delighted her most was being a mother and grandmother. Imogene loved Karla and her husbands Lionel Forbett, but the joys of her life were her 2 grandsons, Lincoln Ross Leatherman born in 1977 and John Weston Leatherman born in 1981. She considered them gifts from god and proceded to care for them, love them, and teach them to put God first in their lives. Imogene always told hem that they could do anything hey decided to do if they would just work at doing it and never quit!!! Imogene didn't limit her teaching and encouragement to her family. Fanky was the matriarch of 5 generations totaling approximately 80 wonderful children who all love their Grandma Pauline. Franky worked very hard providing for her family as an incredibly loving Mother, housewife, and hairdresser in Leedey and Sulphur for 30 years. She was a great cook, and seamstress; she loved gardening, camping, and anything fun. More than anything, she loved her family and many, many friends, and she was a friend to everyone. Everyone was welcome in Franky's home. Franky always wanted to know if you had enough to eat and if you slept well. It was common for her to work all day shucking corn and staying up late to get it all 'put up'. When the kids arrive home from school on the bus, they might see 3 or 4 baskets of clothes under the line to be hung up to dry. Even if it was really cold out, she would say, 'they will freeze dry'. Franky was bapized in the Church of Chist in 1947. She and Gandpa had many church friends that they socialized with. They might stay up to the wee hours of the night playing cards or dominoes with the Pecks, the Switzers, the Carney's an! d the Shackleford families. They all said that she was their favorite Aunt because everyone was welcome, dirty shoes and all, and there was usually wonderful food on the sove that she was alway willing to share. She was very loved by her special friend Sammy Jones of Sulphur, Oklsahoma. She was always concerned about everyone having enough to eat, and she alway said that laughter was the best medicine, and laugh we did. She will surely be missed by all who know her. Some tears never dry, but all the happpy times and wonderful memories will replace the painful loss of our Grandma, Franky Pauline Ferrell.
