I have a letter (original) from Lucy and Conley written to her parents, Harvey Vandegar & Alice COOK PUCKETT on December 14, 1918 while they were enroute to Sandpoint. Then, shortly after the 1st of the year, 1919, the PUCKETTs received a letter (I have the original) from their friend, Lucy COWART, telling about Lucy's illness and death, as well as Mrs. COWART's own 3 children. I'm so glad I have found Conley's obituary on-line as I have often wondered what became of him. Also I've wondered why they decided to move to Idaho, so far away from their families and home.
All is not lost. We can still get assistance from the various offices, whose telephone numbers are listed below. For a while, we might even have to do research by accessing the real records, not just what someone else has put on the web. Unheard of!! :o) Martha Kendall Holmes You are currently unable to access the Bureau of Land Management's (BLM) web site because of litigation against the Department of the Interior (DOI) regarding access to Indian trust data or assets. On December 5, a court order from U.S. District Judge Royce C. Lamberth required DOI and its agencies to disconnect from the internet all information systems until it can be demonstrated that systems housing or providing access to individual Indian trust data or assets meet appropriate security standards. We are currently reviewing all information systems and certifying to the court's satisfaction that all of BLM's computer systems protect all critical information. As a result, you cannot view the BLM's home page or send e-mail to DOI or its agencies. We are working diligently to comply with the court order so that we can restore full service to our customers as soon as possible. Also a group of 1950's graduates from out of town have challenged the 1950's grads in town to raise $500 so we can have the Clydesdale horses in the parade.....We will see how this works! The motels in town are full but there are several in Elk City that are available. We have many restaurants and there will be several concessions. We will have fans for sale which will have the schedule printed. If you haven't made your plans to come for the week, it is not too late. We have RV hookups available. If you need any information, please call the Pioneer Museum/Chamber Office at 580-497-2760. Blessings, Judy Tracy
HI Two days ago a person wrote to me requesting info on J.P. Johnson -- I checked with another Johnson researcher and was unable to connect them. I have lost that person's email address and wouldn't you know that today I found J.P. Johnson in the Cheyenne Sunbeam newspaper, June 22, 1900 it listed J.P. Johnson as having made final proof on his land. That means he probably was a land runner or at least an early homesteader and I would love to pass on all pertinent info to the contact. Will that person please write to me again. Blessings, Judy near Cheyenne
