Joseph Arthur Andris Jr. was born November 24, 1917 at the Sandstone Creek community, Roger Mills County, Oklahoma to Joseph Arthur and Irene Smith Andris and passed away Saturday May 18, 2002 at the age of 84. He attended Sandstone, Herring and Cheyenne Schools and served his country in the U.S. Navy from 1942 until his discharge in 1945 during WW II. Mr. Andris was married to Arnetta June Thomas on February 26, 1944 at the Sayre Methodist Church parsonage. They farmed near the Sandstone Community until moving to Elk City in 1993. Mr. Andris was a member of the United Methodist Church of Elk City and the American Legion. He was preceded in death by his parents and an infant brother. Graveside funeral service were held at 1:00 p.m. Firday, May 31, 2002 in the Curtis Cemetery with Reverend Lesly Broadbent officiating. Burial was followed iwith Billings Funeral Home in charge of arrangements. Clarence Marion Hall was born May 13, 1914 in Roger Mills County, Oklahoma, the oldest of 13 children born to Elmer and Daisy May Routs Hall. He grew up near Crawford and attended school in that area. The farm life and tending to his cattle was his love, but when times were tough, he worked for a time with the WPA, the Roberts Ranch, for Hubert Knittel as a brick layer, and Woodward County. He married May Ophelia Jackson on September 6, 1937 at Cheyenne and to this union six children were born. In 1954, they purchased the farm where they have lived since that time. Clarence loved to travel and to visit. He could strike up a conservation with anyone around that wanted to reminisce. Clarence was very knowledgeable in how to make something out of nothing and make it work, or putting several things together to make something unique. He alwasy had a hug and a greeting for his family. He was very proud of his children and loved to see his grandchildren and great grandch! ildren, and often spoke of how he wished they lived closer. He always encouraged his children to get a good education because he did not have the opportunity, even though he was a well educated man. Clarence loved to read and he read everything he could get his hands on. He is survived by his wife of 64 years. Mary Hall of Mooreland, three sons, Calvin Hall and wife Rita of Ulysses, Kansas; Wayne Hall and wife Colleen of Mooreland; David Hall and wife Jodie of Mooreland; three daughters, Pearl Hall of Counc il Bluffs, Iowa, Vivian Diermier of Scio, Oregon; and Eva Fields and husband Ron of Washington, Arkansas; two brothers, Jim Hall and wife Marion of Ponca City; Raymond Hall and wife of Casper, Wyoming; seven sisters, Lilly Williams of Ponca City; Cora Lee Shillings of Maders, California, Velma Haydo of Clovis, California; Lorene Cadwell of Vici; Fern Craawford and husband Roy of Vici; Faye Ward and husband Aldon of Ponca City; and Lucille Williams of Arnett; nine grandchildren; 12 great grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews and friends. Flowers lived 58 years on a farm near Sweetwater passed away May 30, 2002 , at the Erick Nursing Center at the age of 87 years, 4 months and 12 days. Joe was born January 18, 1915 in Erick, Oklahoma, to Anna Myrtle Morgan and Samuel Turner Flowers. He attended school at Erick. Joe was married to Lois Haag at Mayfield, OK on January 8, 1938, at Preacher Montgomery's house. They had recently celebrated their 64th anniversary. He was a farmer, he was a member of the Primitive Baptist Church where he was Secretary and Song Leader. Joe worked at the Roger Mills County ASCS office in Cheyenne, Oklahoma for some 20 years while he was farming 2 farms. He retired in 1977. Joe was a self taught musician. He could play the fiddle, guitar, mandolin, bass-ficcle, basically anthing with strings. He fiddled for years with the Erick Kitchen Band, a group fo retired folks that entertained at as many as seven nursing homes and the Veteran's Hospital at Clinton each month. He was preceded in death by his parents, one son, David, one grandson Robert, 5 brothers and sisters. Services were held Monday, June 3, 2002 at 2:00 p.m. at Sweetwater First Baptist Church officiated by Ed Wrather. Burial was a the Buffalo Cemetery, Sweetwater, Beckham County, Oklahoma under the direction of Fatheree-Albert Funeral Home. The boy was found by his fahter in a road near the home about 7 p.m. There was a tank, a piece of gas pipe, and a small kite attached to an elecrical high line. According to authentic information, the boy was not electrocuted. He may have climber on the gas tanak, received a small shock causing him to fall and break his neck or he may have been trying to pole valut when he fell. He is survived by his parents two brothers Tom and Gary, and his maternal grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. W.C. Mutschler of Berling. Funeral services will be Thursday August 5, 1965 at 2:30 p.m. in the school auditorium. Scroggins and Son are in charge of arrangements. In 1891 she came with her parents to Greer county, near Eldorado where they stayed two years later moving to the vicinity of Pauls Valley. After residing there for several years, they came to what was then known as Old Day county in 1895. It was at Old Grand, where she spent some of her happiest years. The many friends she made while living there was some of her fondest memories. On January 3, 1909, she was united in marriage to William Claird West. Five children were born to this union. Her husband preceded her in death in 1941,one daughter Pearl in 1943. She is survvived by one daughter Mary, Three sons, Seba, Claudie and Erwin West, all of Leedey, Oklahoma. Two grandsdons, lee of Morton, Texas and Joe of Leedey. Also one great granddaughter Amy Lee West. Mrs. West also had two brothers, five half brothers and sisters. Four preceded her in death, as ollows: T.J. in 1943, Jim in 1948, Chalres in 1953, and Mrs. Mary Duggan in 1965. Those living are Mrs. Emma Kirbie, Leedey, Mr.s Edna McCuske5r, Los Angeles, California and Carl Hogg of Clovis, New Mexico. Many nieces and nephews and a host of friends. She accepted Chirst as her Savior and followed the Lord in Baptism, remaining true to her convictions to the end. It can be truly said, that she was all that could be asked of as a friend just as she possessed the highest qualities as a wife and mother. Kindness and gentleness could be seen in her every contact with those about her. Funeral services were held on Friday May 7, 1965 at Leedey Auditorium aand Rev. Martha Rose of Antock, California in charge assisted by Rev. Jack Winkler of Leedey, Oklahoma. He and his wife had come from Des Palos, California to visit her mother, Mrs. Lula Rupp here. Survivros are his wife Verna of Des Palos, California; step-children, Alice Bullard, Arnett; Katie Davis, Dallas, Texas; Charles E. Drake, Warminster, Pennsylvania; Faye Randolf, Hawhtorne, California; Le5roy Drake, Los Angeles, California; his son Ralph Waldo Sawin, Jr., Farmington, New Mexico; 13 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren. He came to the Dempsey community with his parents in 1904. In 1937 he was married to Verna Drake. Flenner was born February 27, 1878 at Martinville, Illinoies, departhis life February 20, 1967. At the age of 88 years 11 months and 20 days. She attended school in Martinville and qualified as a teacher, here she met and married Henry E. Rupp September 19, 1898, to this union was born three children, Forest A. Rupp and Verna N. Sawin, one daughter passed away at eighteen months. They made their home in Martinville on a farm, until 1909 they moved to the Grimes community and lived until her passing. Her husband was in the real estate business until he retired because of his health. She accepted the Lord and was baptised at an early age, she was a member of the Methodist church, she had been unable to attend because of her health for a number of years. After the death of her husband she lived alone, with the help of her wonderful neighbors, especially Flora and Frrim Rasberry until her daughter, Verna, lost her husband and made her home with her mother the last two years of her life taking care of her, until she was admitted to the Hospital where she passed away early Monday morning. She was preceded in death by her husband on August 10, 1949, her parents, two sisters and one brother. She leaves to mourn her son Forest Rupp of Tucson, Arizona, one daughter, Verna M. Sawin of Cheyenne, nine grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren and four great great grandchildren and an older sister Annie Fry 93 yeaars of age of Weatherford, Oklahoma and one brother George Flenner, 91 years of age of Elk City; two sisters-in-law, Allie Flenner and Eliza Flenner and one brother-in-law Harve Macklin; a host of nieces, nephews and friends. Mrs. Rupp lost a limb when she was a young woman, but did her work as long as she was able to do so, she was troubled with her hearing for a number of years which kept her from going to church or doing other things in her later life.
