Funeral services were Sunday at 2:30 p.m. in the First Baptist Church, Cheyenne, with Rev. James Wilkerson assisted by Rev. Milton Gage officiating. Born February 25, 1914 in Mangum, Mr. Bradshaw married Arvella Watson at Lawton. He came to Cheyenne in 1919 from Mangum where he operated a feed mill and was also a farmer and rancher. He was a member of the Baptist church, Cheyenne Chamber of Commerce, a Veteran of W II, Masonic Order, American Legion, and was Kiwanis club past president, a retired fire department chief who served 20 years with the volunteer department. Survivors are his wife of the home; one daughter, Patricia Anne and one son, Richard Monroe both of the home; his mother, Mary C. Bradshaw, Cheyenne; two brothers, J.E. of Cheyenne, J.L. of McKinney, Texas; two sisters, Mrs. Geraldine Dearing, Cheyenne, Mrs. Billie Fern Rush, Odessa, Texas. He was preceded in death by his father, oned sister, Pauline Riggs, oned brother W.P. Bradshaw. Pall bearers were Robert Briggs, Ralph Kirk, Dean Krober, James Mogg, Orville Boggess, Tom Perryman. Honorary pallbearers were Billy Chalfant, J.W. Chalfant, Chink Beaty, Giles Peterson , Eddie Lee McDaniel, Eli Shotwell, R.L. Trammell, Eldridge Calvert, Rannie Lester, John Wesner, Glenn Kendall, Johnnie Cannon, Rusty Ellis, Melvin Sasser, Oran Jencks. Dr. Henry was my doc when I was born, and when I was a baby. He delivered me on August 5, 1945 in the Sayre Hospital. And he tried to help me with colic, etc. in Strong City. That must have been a real challenge for him to care for all of us when he was so sick. She resided here until 1928 when she moved to Elk City. At the time of her death she was living with her daughter, Mrs. Walter Jacobs of Rogers, Arkansas. Other survivors are half-brothers, Jim Sprowls of Elk City and Walter Sprowls, of Hollywood, California. W.A. One infant brother preceded him in death. Those left to mourn are his parents, two brothers and two sisters, besides a host of other relatives and friends. Funeral services were held Monday at 2:30 at the Community Building with the sermon by Rev. Horace Woodard. Burial was in the White Rose Cemetery, Reydon, Roger Mills County, Oklahoma. Snyder, was born November __, 1881 at Leon, Kansas and departed this life Sepptember 15, 1944 at the age of 62 years, 10 months and 25 days. With her parents, she moved from Leon to Coldwater, Kansas at an early age. Then at the time of the opening of the Cherokee Strip, she and her parents moved to Alva. She united with the Methodist Church at Alva at the age of 12. She acted as organist for the First Methodist Sunday school that was organized in Alva and that met in the old Bickel building on the east saide of the square. Later she acted as pianist in the Firsr Methodist church of Alva that was located where the Civic Center now stands. She was united in marriage to Dahl DeGeer February 20, 1896, in the home of her parents, with Reverend Oyer, then pastor of the Methodist church, performing the ceremony. With her husband she lived at Kansas City, Missourfi, for nine years, then just five miles southwest of Alva for five years. Later she and her husband moved to Strong City, Oklahoma, where she lived for 20 years. At Strong City she acted as president of the Union Aid society for six years. Also, shed was a charter member and acted as presiddent of the Strong City Home Demostration club for a number of years. For the past four and one-half years, she and her husband have lived in Alva. She has been a member of Women's Society of Christian Service during all that time. This year she has been in the Esther Guild. Also sher has been a member of the Union Center Club here at Alva. She has been ill since the first of May and critically so for the past two and one-half months. She has been a sweet and a very patient sufferer through this long illness. Mrs. John C. Gage of Carlsbad, New Mexico has been her faithful nurse. She leaves to mourn her loss, her husband, Dahl G. Thurmond will be conducted at the Baptist Church in Clinton on Thursday afternoon, December 6, 1945 at 2:00 o'clock. Mr. Thurmond died early Tuesday morning. He was born in Dido, Texas, Tarrant County, September 26, 1869, passed away at 4:30 a.m. December 4, 1945, at Clinton, Oklahoma. Mr. Thurmond had been ill about ten days. He moved to Mobettie, Texas in 1885, made the run to Cheyenne Arapaho country in 1892 and staked a claim one-half mile south of Cheyenne, Oklahoma. From the year 1892 to 1898 Mr. Thurmond was engaged in cattle business and general merchandising store with his brothers. In 1898 Mr. Thurmond started in the banking business with his brothers. In 1902 he moved to Erick, Oklahoma where he becamed President of the First National Bank. In 1903 he married Sallie Longmore of Erick. In 1903 Mr. and Mrs. Thurmond moved to Clinton, Oklahoma, and he was president of the First National Bank of Clinton from 1907 to 1919. Mr. Thurmond had been a deacon in the Baptist church for the past forty years. He is survived by his wife, Mrs. O.H. Thurmond of Clinton, his sister, Mrs. C.E. Gannaway of Clinton, his brothers, E.K. Thurmond, Los Angeles, Califonia, I.C. Thurmond, Amarillo, Texas; A.L. Thurmond and J.P. Thurmond of Elk City, Oklahoma. His father and mother, Mr. and Mrs. E.G. Thurmond have preceded him in death. Jones, jr., of near Leedey was recovered from a cistern on Monday of this week. Accordin to reports Mrs. Jones did not come to death from drowning, nor were any bopnes broken. According to the attending physician death was probably the result of heart failure. The body was removed from the cistern by a neighbor, Roger Williams, according to information received. Mrs. Jones, who was 62 years of age, and the mother of 13 children, was alone at the farm home west of Leedey in Roger Mills County. The husband and one son had come to Cheyenne to pay taxes and attend to other matters of business. Another son, home from the Army, was expected home for dinner. According to information, Mrs. Jones had dinner prepared and bath water hot. It is thought that she fell into the cistern as she attempted to hang a strainer in its accustomed place over the cistern . He preceded her in death February 16, 1986. She was also preceded in death by a brother, Sherman Levi Grubb II. Survivors include three daughters, Myria Gibson and her husband Scott, Ardmore, Marsha Allmon and her husband Gary, Sulpher, and Lilly Kay Wynn and her husband William Cannon and his wife Liz, Fittstown, and Joe Cannon and his wife Tammy, Fittstown, three sisters, Clara Elizabeth Dunn, Richville, Kansas, Velma Lynn Carrol, Birmingham, Alabama, and Catherine Hefner. Lewiston, Idaho; one brother John Grubb, Hackett, Arkansas, 14 grandchildren, and five great grandchildren. She passed from this life on December 23, 2005 at the age of 84 years. Lorene lived in Pamona, Missouri, El Reno and Oklahoma City, Oklahoma as well as Wichita, Kansas. She attended school at El Reno Midland School. On August 17, 1944 Lorene married Floyd Reese Zimms. Their marriage was blessed with the birth of two children, Marilyn Kay and Floyd Martin. The family lived in Oklaholma City before moving to the farm near Hammon, Oklahoma. Lorene was baptized in July of 1953 at the Moorewood Missionary Baptist Church. She was a faithful member and participated in the WMU and as a Sunday school teacher. Lorene was a farmer's wife and took pride in her abilities to cook, sew, crochet, and garden. She enjoyed writing poetry for many of the showers that were held in the church. Lorene was preceded in dearh by her husband, Floyd Zimms; her parents, Martin and Estella Brotherton; a sister, Dorothy Victorene Holland; and a brother, Wilber Bryan Brotherton. Those surviving to cherish her memory are her chikldren, Marilyn Kay Gwartney and husband Jimmie of Earlsboro, Oklahoma and Floyd Martin Zimms and wife Lynda of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma; by six grandchildren, 12 great grandchildren, and one great grandchild; by a brother-in-law, Elmer Orville Zimms of Canute, Oklahoma; and by other family and many friends. Services were held Wednesday, December 28, 2005 in the Moorewood Missionary Baptist Church with interment following in the Moorewood Cemetery, Custer County, Oklahoma. Surnames: Cecil, Wylie, Shelton, Stanka Classification: Obituary Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/5YB.2ACE/6644 Message Board Post: William Burley Cecil was born August 24, 1871, Pulaski County, Virginia, and passed away in Pampa, texas on January 6, 1946 at the age of 74 years, 4 months and 13 days, having made his home there for the past four years. He came to Dallas County in 1888 where he later met and married Louella Wylie on April 23, 1893. To this union were born 10 children; two girls and eight boys, three dying in infancy. Mr. Cecil was preceded in death by his wife 26 years ago. He moved with his family to Durham, Oklahoma in 1904 where he homesteaded and lived until 1941 when he moved to Pampa. At an early age he was converted and joined the Methodist church and was a faithful member until the time of his passing. He was on his way to the evening services when the accident occured. Mr. Cecil leaves to mourn his passing the following children: D.E. Cecil, Torrence, California Mrs. Joe Shelton, Pampa, Texas Bob Cecil, Los Angeles, California Forrest Cecil, Gaden, California Glen Cecil, Durham, Oklahoma Mrs. M.E. Stanka, Rendondo Beach, California Woodrow Cecil, U.S. Navy 12 grandchildren and one brother, D.S. Cecil, San Berardino, California. All of the children and four grandchildren were present. Funeral services were held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Pampa, with Rev. R.L. Gilpin bringing the message. Rev. E.B. Bowen asssissting. Another service was held at 2:30 in Durham, with Rev. Gilpin in charge. Mr. Cecil was laid to rest by the side of his wife in the Fairview cemetery, Durham, Roger Mills County, Oklahoma under the direction of Dunkel Carmichael funeral home.
