Mrs. Goin was born February 8, 1866 in Bell County, Kentucky. She died Saturday following a long illness. In 1885 she was married to G.W. Goin in Kentucky and in 1911 the couple moved to Roger Mills county, where they have resided most of the ime since. She was a longg-time member of the Prmitive Baptist Church. Survivors include four daughters, Mrs. W.F. Wallace, Tucumcari, New Mexico, Mrs. T.G. Miller of Portales, New Mexico, Mrs. S.P., Springer, Crawford and Mrs. H.H. Williams of Raymond, Washington; four sons, E.E. Goin of Portales, J.W. of Crawford, J.R. of Ayfle, Washington and B.B. Golin of Portales, New Mexico. Her husband preceded her in death in January 1947. The Rev. Don Anderson, pastor of the Cheyenne Baptist Church, officiated. Nellie May McDaniel was born in Mitchell County, Texas, August 2, 1890 and entered into rest November 29, 1948 at Albuquerque, New Mexico at the age of 58 years, 3 months and 27 days. At the age of 17 years she was married to Blowis Hooten and to this union 8 children were born, 7 of whom survive. All were at her bedside at the time of her death. Mr. and Mrs. Hooten resided at Cheyenne and at Durham for seven years, moving to Regina, New Mexico in 1940 where they have resided seince. Mrs. Hooten has spent the past 3 months in Albuquerque where she was under the care of a doctor. Survivors are her husband, Blowie Hooten, Regina, New Mexico; Mrs. Erma Batchelor and Mrs. Nennie Martin, all of Cheyenne, Oklahoma; Mrs. Pauline Spivey, Espanola, New Mexico; Mrs. Irene Berry and Mrs. Wanda Shipman, both of Albuquerque, New Mexico; Mrs. Opal Henderson and Bert Hooten, both of Regina, News Mexico. Besides the husband and children named above she is sdurvived by two brothers, Lee McDaniel of Durham, Oklahoma; and Henry McDamiel of Cheyenne, Oklahoma and one sister, Mrs. Mattie Leonard of Barksdale, Texas. 11 grandchildren are among the survivors. Mrs. Hooten was a wonderful wife and mother and she was loved by all who knew her and her passing is mourned by many friends and neighbors. She was a devout member of the Church of Christ. He passed from this lifes on October 17, 2000 at the age of 78 years. Jack attended grade school at Trail and high school at Leedey, Oklahoma. He enjoyed the time he spent working on the family farm with his parents and brothers and sisters. Jack married Phyllis Coleman on April 21, 1941 in Taolga, Oklahoma. They farmed and ranched on the Trail flats until 1961 when they moved to Leedey, Oklahoma. In 1965, they movedd to Woodward, Oklahoma where they opened and ran a restaurant for 25 years. Then then moved to Hinton, Oklahoma and managed a convenience store. In July of 1991 they returned to their home in Leedey where they enjoyed renewing friendships. Jack enjoyed his family and working in the yard. He had a special hobby of playing the harmonica. Jack served in the Army from January of 1945 until June of 1946 and held the rank of sergeant at the time of his honorable discharge. Whiled serving he was honored with a good conduct medal, a victory ribbon, American Theater Ribbon, APT Ribbon, andc a Philippians Liberation Ribbon with one star. Jack was baptized May 8, 1949 and became a member of the First Baptist Church. He was preceded in death by his wife, Phylllis Craig; his parents, L.C. and Pearl Craig; an adult sister, Ada Sue Skelton; an infant sister, Helen Jewel; and by five brothers Orville, Carl, Charlie, Lee and John Craig. Jack is survived by his daughter, Jacqueline Welty and her husband Rex of Leedey; one son Ron Craig and his wife Barbara of Yukon, Oklahoma; two sisters, Billie Ruth Jones and her husband Louis of Leedey and Alyce Baker and husband Andy of Hemet, California; two brothers, James C Craig and his wife Leojeanne of Leedey, and Dave Craig and his wife Frances of Clifton, Colorado; one brother-in-law, Gene Coleman and his wife Oneta of Clinton, Oklahoma; six grandchildren, Kim Miller, Dusty Welty, Bescky Dugger, Monty Welty, Regina Brunker and Kristgy Martin; five great grandchildren, Megan Miller, Jason Welty, Dillon Dugger, Knydal Dugger, and Kaylee Brunker; and also by many loved ones and friends. He is survived by his wife Myrna of the home; his daughter Lori Wallis and granddaughter Brandi of Muskogee, Oklahoma, his mother Ethel; two sisters, Coell Smith and Joann and husband Charles Beeson, all of Sayre, Oklahoma, his mother-in-law Jewel Brandt; and seeveral nieces and nephews and a host of other relatives and friends. Davenport, daughter of Dave and Elizabeth was born July 15, 1865 in Davenport, Iowa, and departed this life at the home of her son, Doc Fox of Cheyenne, Oklahoma March 26, 1948 at the age of 82 years, 8 months and 11 days. She was united in marriage January 9, 1883 at Bradford, Tenn., to Johnson Monroe Fox. To this union were born sixteen children, five of whom preceded her in death. Beside her own children she wasd also a loving and devoted mother to six step children and one grandson having reared them to manhood and womanhood. Also surviving are 20 grandchildren and 19 great grand children. With her husband she came to Oklahoma before statehood, settling nedar Okemah. Her husband departed this life June 1, 1926. Since that time she has spent the last 20 years of her life among her children. When a small girl she dedicated her life to God and ever since has been a faithful follower of Chruist. Having made her home in various states and cities she was unabl to attend the same church for her christian worship but at the times of her death her church letter remains at the First Baptist Church at Durham, Oklahoma. Mother Fox wa a sweet character and dearly loved by all who knew her. Her trusting faith tempered by kindness and patience and her everlasting friendship endeared her to all. She loved to pray. She believed in prayer. She was always telling others how God answered so many of her prayers. Her loved ones were very grateful and happy that the last prayer was answered. She always wisheds that when her time came to depart this life she would be at the home of her son Doc, and this wish was granted. Her death came as such a tremendous shock to all for she was sao active even at her age. She love to travel and go places. She thought no more of catching a plane from coast-to-coast than a teen-age person would. As a small triute to her loved ones. Dr. Ballenger died in an Elk City hospital Monday night, January 18, 1949 after a critical illness of seven days., Dr. Ballenger came to Roger Mills County in thed early days and located at old Hamburg where he practiced medicine until about 19__ when he moived to Strong City. He practiced medicine in Strong City until his retirement about ten years ago. For the past few years he has resided in Cheyenne. Dr. Ballenger was the old family type physician who administered to the needs of those who called him regardless of whether or not he ever received any money for his services. Alll who knew him loved him. Bart M. Ballenger was born Match 19, 1864 a Carbon Hills, Alabama and died in Elk City, Oklahoma January 17, 1949. In 1891 he was married to Mollie Sheppard who died soon after he came to Roger Mills CCounty. In 1910 he was married to Julia Stephenson, who preceded him in death. He is survived by six daughters and two sons. Four daughters preceded him in death. The surviving sons and daughters are B.M. Ballenger, Cheyenne, Joe M. Ballenger, Tokyo, Japan, Mrs. Eula Wilson, Pampa, Texas, Mrs. Stella Lyans, San Francisco, California, Mrs. O.V. Shelton, Reydon, Oklahoma, Mrs. F.J. Arnoldd, Clovis, New Mexico, Mrs. J.R. Choats, Los Angeles, California, and Mrs. G.H. Gatten, San Bernadino, California. Dr. Ballenger was a member of the Methodist Church and was a chartert member of the Odd Fellows lodge of Hamburg. Surnames: Raff, Acker Classification: Obituary Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/5YB.2ACE/6884 Message Board Post: A number of relatives and friendws from Durham went to Hooker, Oklahoma, Tuesday August 17th, 1948 to attend the funeral services of Kenneth Raff, who was killed in an automobile accident at Liberal, Kansas Sunday, August 15th, 1948. According to the Hooker Advocate, five persons, including Kenneth Raff and Edward Acker, both of Hooker were killed in one of the worst automobile tragedies in years. Mrs. Kenneth Raff is in a Liberal, Kansas hospital in a serious condition. Both of her legs are broken above the knee and she has serious chest injuries and cuts and bruises of the head. The Chevrolet pickup occupied by Mr. and Mrs. Kenneth Raff and her brother, Edward Acker had just left the outskirts of Liberal, Kansas and was traveling at a low rate of speed on the extreme right side of the highway when a Buick car struck it. The Buick was traveling at a high rate of speed, according to officials, and its left front fender struck the pickup just in front of the left front door. Both vehicles were reduced to bits of rubble. Immediately after the collision two ambulances from Liberal, Kansas took the three from the Buick, Acker and Mrs. Raff to a hospital where all but Mrs. Raff died almost immediately. The body of Kenneth Raff was not discovered until later when a small boy found it in a deep ditch. Joint funeral services were held at Hooker for Kenneth Raff and his brother-in-law Edward Acker, under the auspice of the American Legion. Kenneth C. Raff, son of Mr. and Mrs. Charles Raff was born at Durham, Oklahoma April 1, 1918 and passed away August 15, 1948 at the age of 30 years, 4 months and 14 days. He was married to Rose Acker July 18, 1939. To this union three children were born, Charlie, Eddie and Wanda Rose. He was inducted into the service May 5, 1944 and received his honorable discharge November 1944. Besides his wife and three children he leaves to mourn his passing his parents, six brothers, four sisters and a host of other relatives. Among relatives and friends attending the funeral services were Mr. and Mrs. Charles Raff and Mr. and Mrs. Bill Raff and sons of Durham; Mrs. R.K. Dobbs, Hawkins, Texas; Pfc Carl E. Raff, Austin, Texas; Pfc Lloyd Ray Raff, El Paso, Texas; Thelma Reverett, Forgan; Mrs. Goldie Robrts, Dennis Raff and Jiggs Thompson, Beaver; Mr. and Mrs. Walter Gantz, George Gantz and Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Hanawalt.
