He has been an active member of the Church of Christ for over 60 years. He was an avid sports fan receiving the Sayre All Sports Award Sweater one year. Funeral services for King were held Wednesday at 3:30 p.m. in the First Presbyterian church with the Rev. James R. Struthers officiating. Burial will be in Fairlawn cemetery, under direction of Strode Funeral Home. Pallbearers were Vernon Johnson, K.T. Gallagher, Dr. Helmer Sorenson, Kenneth Rhea, Gus Friedeman, Dr. Ware Marsden, Bob Powell and Marion Smith. Memorial contributions may be made to the Stillwater High School Scholarship Fund or the Oklahoma Medical Research Association. King was born April 16, 1918 in Reydon, Oklahoma, the son of Joe B. and Jennie Batchelor King. He was married to Lorene Hall in Oklahoma City July 29, 1939. Following teaching duties in Garber and at Drummond, the latter as principal, King came back to Stillwater in 1945, where he had received his degree at OSU and served as junior high speech and geography teacher until 1952 when he was named principal at Jefferson and Will Rogers Elementary schools. He later was named Stillwater elementary school coordinator, and also taught several courses at Oklahoma State can Education, had served as president of the Stillwater Education Association, a life member of Oklahoma Education Association, and was a member of the State and National Elementary Principals' Association. King is survived by his wife of the home, 3825 N. Washington; two daughters, Mrs. Deanna Brooks, a Stillwater teacher and Janis of the home, a Stillwater high school senior. Interment was in the Memorial Park Cemetery, Amarillo, Texas. The sympathy of the Reydon community is extended to the bereaved as he spent the first years of boyhood and manhood here. Mr. Mitchell's colorful newspaper life in western Oklahoma began at Grand, county seat of Day County, where he and his brother E.L. Mitchell established a weekly newspaper. The Caanadian Valley Echo. In the reorganization of Oklahoma after statehoodd in 1907, Day County was left off the map and Grand was no longer a county seat town. The Mitchell's came to Cheyenne where Dick established the Roger Mills Sentinel. When Strong City showed signs of becoming quite a city he moved there and operated a newspaper. Later he moved to Clinton where he established the Clinton Chronical. Later he published the Arapaho Bee in Arapaho. Dick Mitchell was one who stood by his friends with all of the force of his newspaper. He was a goods thinker and a good writer. His weekly column "Dicktaphonees" contained pertinent paragrapsh on issues of the day. His wit expressed in the paragraphs made this column quite interesting. While in Cheyenne Dick Mitchell married Myrtle Repass, a teacher from the Grimes community. After her deaath and while residing in Clinton he married Mrs. Madden who died several years ago. Very faithful to the Methodist Church, was the leading Solist. She was called upon by other churches to help present special prgram she helped the Baptist present thrir programs, many times always faithful as if her own. She lead a full life doing for others. John Wesley Phipps was born July 1, 1903 at Rankin, Oklahoma the son of Ernest C. and Emma Scrivner Phipps. He came to Las Animas with his parents in a covered wagon when he was 12 years old. He was first marriewd to Angela Phillips, who died in 1955. On March 8, 1957 he married Mrs. Feryl Rutan at Grand Junction. He had lived at Cripple Creek for years where he worked as a miner in the Golden Cycle and the other gold mines. He had also sold mining supplies and had done some uranium mining. He returned to Las Animas in 1962 and had helped Fred Stough at his ranch south of Las Animas where he ran a few head of cattle. Besides his wife, Feryl, he is survived by his mother, Mrs. Emma Mallett of Bent County Nursing Home; one daughter, Mrs. Mary Ella Bolander, Independence, Missouri; two step children, Jack Rutan, Cheyenne, Wyoming and Geraldine Robins, Louisville, Ohio; one brother, Bert Phipps, Watsonville, California; three sisters, Mrs. Pauline Ninkovich, Menlo Park, California; Mrs. Ina Tieman, Aurora, Colorado, and Mrs. Anna Raber, Oakland, California, and 11 grandchildren. Funeral services were held Tuesday afternoon in the Powell Griffy Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Wesley Schlotzhauer, pastor of the First Presbyterian Church officiating. Mrs. Forrestine Odell sang "In The Garden" and Beautiful Isle of Somewhere." Mrs. Iola Woods was the organist. Casket bearers were Leo Huff, George Tull, Lloyd Adams, C. She was a member of the Hammon Baptist Church. She came to Roger Mills County with her parents in 1906 and lived in the Hammon area until moving to the Hodges Nursing Home several years ago. In 1900 he filed on a claim near Roll in Roger Mills County where he lived until 1946 when he moved to Elk City where he residsed until his passing. He was united in marriage to Lettie Alma Gilliland in 1904. She preceded him in death in 1951. One grandson, Eddie Summit, also preceded him in death. Survivors include one daughter, Bertha Maude McCullogh of Elk City, Oklahoma, one son, Lester George Summit of Oklahoma City, five grandchildren, sixteen great grandchildrehn, other relatives and a host of friends. Born October 9, 1898 in Missouri, Mr. Shirley moved as a child with his parents to the Berlin community in 1907 and has been a resident there since. He was married May 18, 1927 to Louise Hester in Shawnee. He has been a member of the Methodist church 33 years and is a member of the Sayre Masonic lodge. He was preceded in death by his parents and two sons. Survivorsw are his wife of the home; two daughters, Mrs. Mark Wells, Pasadena, California, Mrs. John Kos, Norwalk, California; one son, David of Borger, Texas, 11 grandchildren; two sisters, Mrs. Frank Brewer, Elk City, Mrs. Frank Carmichael, Sayre.
