McDonald, a forty two year resident of Tatum, died at age 75 on March 3, 2005, following a short illness due to an inoperable brain tumor. Born in Pittsburg, Kansas, in 1929, he loved the outdoors, especially hunting a fishing. Max served as an infantry mechanic in Korea. He returned to Oklahoma to wed Doris McCombie in 1954. In 1957 Max and Doris moved to Creede, Colorado, near the headwaters of the Rio Grande, with their young daughters Chris and Susan. Max made his living as a Colorado fishing and hunting tour guide, Little Squaw summer resort manager, and as a gunsmith. In 1963 the family moved to Tatum, New Mexico. Over the years, Max was a gun trader, gunsmith, police chief, and a machinist-electrician rebuilding oilfield magnetos. Max was a Master Mason and member of Montezuma Lodge No. 1 of Santa Fe. Max is survived by his 95 year-old mother, Clara King McDonald, of Ada, Oklahoma; his wife, Doris McDonald; his daughter Chris McDonald Vogel and son-in-law Daryl Vogel of Washington state and their children, Taylor, Daryl, Breanna and Makayla; his daughter Susan Moore and son-in-law Richard Moore of Santa Fe, New Mexico; his sisters Billie Brewer and Donna Wilbert; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his father, Max M. McDonald, and his sister Delores McDonald. A graveside service will be held at Tatum Cemetery on Saturday, March 12, 2005, at 1:00 p.m. A photo memorial and celebration of his life will follow in the evening. Friends and family are also encouraged to participate in sharing memories in writing via e-mail: MaxMcDonaldMemories@yahoo.com. Max requested that memorial contributions be generously gifted to your own recreation fund, noting that life should be spent doing what you most enjoy. Live fully, one day at a time! ________________________________________________________________ This writer Earl L.
