I'm sorry to hear about your cousin. I have been unable to make the exact connection...there is so much mis-information around. My ggrandfather is Thomas Almarine Birdwell, married to Emma Wheeler, His father was Thomas Garner, married to Rebecca Lipsey. Both of those men had more than one marriage, and that's where it gets sticky. Most of the info available has my grandfather, William Lawson as Thomas Riley Birdwell's son, but he was in fact a cousin or uncle...there was only a few years difference in their ages. Do any of these names ring a bell? I believe we are all related, there was just so darn MANY children having so darn many children. Keep in touch, maybe we can figure this out My ggrandfather was convicted of manslaughter in the early 1900's, the accounts are in the Ada evening news.
