Gene was a wonderful genealogist and a great family member. He did extensive research of our Coffey family (his wife's line) and shared his findings freely. He is the reason that genealogy has become so fascinating to me. I've learned so much about the importance of sources and numerous other things that I needed to learn -- all from Gene. He told me a few years ago that his son was interested in genealogy. Gene had notebook after notebook filled with information. But, most of all, he had the information filed in his memory.
