I also have a Chickasaw James family connection in the Pontotoc and Coal Couty areas, and found that the enrollment packets kept in the Oklahoma Historical Society in Oklahoma City to be of great help, especially since in my case there was an intermarriage. In the beginning, it would appear that a non tribal member married to a "by blood Chickasaw" became a member of the Tribe by the marriage. Later on, probably as more non Indians intermarried and were getting land as intermarried members, the simple "by marriage" was changed to require marriage by Tribal Law. In these instances, the proofs of both non-tribal and tribal marriages are shown in great detail. Each person is identified by amount of Chickasaw blood or by intermarriage. There is no research fee for Oklahoma residents, but I believe the research fee for non-residents is now $20.00 plus the cost of copies and postage. It is worth every penny!! The address for the Oklahoma Historical Society is: 2100 North Lincoln Blvd. Oklahoma City, OK 73105-4997 If they do not have the information you seek, they can probably direct you to the repository of the records you need. Good luck in your search! Billie
