Posted on: Pontotoc County Query Forum Reply Here: http://cgi.rootsweb.com/~genbbs/genbbs.cgi/USA/Ok/Pontotoc/10909 Surname: WOOD, WARD, ALEXANDER, FREENY, MOUDY, HENDERSON, LYLE ------------------------- Faye Beatrice Ward, born in 1912 in Bailey, OK, married a Turner KING in Ada probably in the late 1930's, early 1940's. I know nothing about Turner King's family and would like to know some information about them. Evidently he died in Ada and Faye moved to California where she was in 1944. Turner King was Faye Ward's #2 husband. Her first husband was a Blassingame/ Blassingam (?) around Ada. They had a daughter, Ferma. I do not know any information about this family either. Faye Ward was the daughter of William Safford "South" and Mary Ann Elizabeth Wood Ward of Ada. South Ward ran a Chevrolet Dealership in Ada. Faye Ward's mother, Mary Wood was the daughter of Sarah Freeny Alexander and Richard R Wood of Bailey where they had Choctaw Allotments. Richard R Wood was my great grand father. Any information on these families would be most helpful. Thanks, Nell

The town of Gene Autry is in Murray County I believe, a town named after him that Gene has never visisted, it was named because Gene once lived in the area, when they changed the name to Gene Autry, Gene was invited but never showed up.
That's consistent with what I was told about Gene Autrey, because the work he was supposed to have done around Francis was for the railroad. Andrea Ramsay
Try this. http://www.cowboypal.com/gnautob.html Gene moved to Ravia which is near Tishomingo when he was about 15. He worked for the Frisco railroad until he started his singing career. The story about Gene Autry sounds familiar. My stepfather's folks grew up around Francis, Oklahoma, and I remember some story about Gene working in that area, but can't recall the details, and unfortunately, anyone who would know has already passed. Andrea Ramsay
