Posted on: Pontotoc County Query Forum Reply Here: http://cgi.rootsweb.com/~genbbs/genbbs.cgi/USA/Ok/Pontotoc/10948 Surname: POLK ------------------------- New information about Lightening Ridge Cemetery. It is located six miles north of Roff, Pontotoc Co, OK on blacktop road. (Roff is 12 miles southwest of Ada.) There is an East Hill Cemetery OnLine where you may be able to locate your ancestor, POLK and there are several other cemeteries listed on this website: http://www.rootsweb.com/~okpontot/pontowns.html. I did not see the Rosedale Cemetery you mentioned listed, but the North Hickory Cemetery (was also known as Old Ada and Hodges) and is located in the northwest section of the Ada city limits between North Hickory and North Bluff and between West Second and West Fourth Streets. I checked my printouts of the Fittstown Cemetery, North Hickory Cemetery and Lightning Ridge Cemeteries and found no entries for the surname, POLK. Hope this helps somewhat.
Posted on: Pontotoc County Query Forum Reply Here: http://cgi.rootsweb.com/~genbbs/genbbs.cgi/USA/Ok/Pontotoc/10946 Surname: Parker, Holbert, Polk ------------------------- Have Parker and Holbert relatives buried at Lightening Ridge Cemetery which is near Roff (and I believe Roff is southwest of Ada). Understand there is another cemetery called "The Old Ada Cemetery" but I do not know it's location. Perhaps someone who reads this will have the answer for us or know if your Pope family is there. Hope this helps somewhat.

I have recently met a man who knows that his grandparents are buried at West Hill and remembers visiting the graves many times as a child. As most of you know, I have been disturbed about West Hill. It is out in a pasture and all of the tombstones are knocked down and cows have trampled it. I have attempted to set the tombstones back up, but they just end up knocked over again. The man that I met states that there are several graves outside of the "fenced in area". Many are graves of Choctaws. Just wanted to let you know that we have contacted the Choctaw Tribe and they are going to go out there and use some kind of sonography equipment to identify the actual places of the graves and then they will place a GOOD FENCE around the outside parameter of all of the graves.
