I believe they will do a look up for a fee, I thought I had their website in my file but I don't. Go to Google search & Type in Pontotoc Co. Ok Genealogical & Historical society , I believe you can get there. Kay
Back in 1991 we were able to obtain the entire adoption file of my father in Washington Co. Oklahoma and he was adopted in 1920. Oklahoma has open adoption records. We wrote to the court and requested the information, they copied everything and sent them to us. But you have to write to the court where the adoption took place. Hope this helps Carolyn
There was a Breco Hosp in Ada during the time frame that you are talking abouut, I can't remember when it closed. The Historical Society at Ada has all the hosp records for Valley View & I believe the Breco Hosp. I found my Dad's & my hospitol birth record at the library several yrs ago. It would be worth a try, also you might ck with OKC historical society & find out who has the records for the Baptist Orpanage in OKC It ws open until about late 60's. There was also a home for unwed mothers on North Portland, in OKC where PG girls were sent if they were not married or didn't want their babies when they were born. The home of Redeaming Love was where Deaconess Hosp is now, in fact when I was Pg with my daughter in 1966, I started having a miscarrage & did lose her twin, my obgyn Dr was at Deaconess & ordered my husb to bring me there, I remember thinking that everyone would think I was not married, even though I had been married 3 yrs. The telephone # of the hosp is 405-604-6000, they would possibly know what happend to the records. I have helped a couple of people find their birth parents & some states still have the records closed and some have open records. Hope this will help some one, if you need anymore numbers for the OKC area I will look them up for you. Kay Sugg Best

I knew something about "The Home Of Redeeming Love". The records on the BRECO HOSPITAL for 1936 offer the best hope, I think. I wonder if the Historical Society would do a lookup of the records, or if I would have to travel to Ada to look at them?. BK

BUT my grandmother and her brother lived in Roff, OK and were taken to Waco, TX and placed in an orphanage there. This was in about 1910-20. You might want to check this out. I think the name was Beckenridge....so some thing like that. And if Indian related...you might try checking the Goodland records. Goodland Home, Hugo, Okalhoma....that would be the only home I know of. Good Luck!!! Sherri, SE Oklahoma
Posted on: Pontotoc County Query Forum Reply Here: http://cgi.rootsweb.com/~genbbs/genbbs.cgi/USA/Ok/Pontotoc/11029 Surname: Kyle, Jackson, McGehee, Fulton ------------------------- Looking for info on the family of Thomas Shelton Kyle & Anna Lee Jackson, Roff, OK. and James A. Mc Gehee & Sarah Fulton also of that area. Jerry Ruffus Mc Gehee (son of James A.) married Effie Marie Kyle (daughter of Thomas)...had two children, Benny Mc Gehee and Bonnie Mc Gehee. There were several sons and one daughter born to James A. Mc Gehee and Sarah Fulton. To the Kyle family were born several daughters and one son. Both families were in the Roff area from 1900 - 1910. It is believed that Thomas Shelton Kyle was buried in or around Ada, OKlahoma. His wife, Anna Lee remarried and moved to Denver, Colorado. Both families were from Texas...several of McGehee family moved back to Texas, including Jerry Ruffus, who died in Dallas, Texas, and is buried in Tyler, Tx beside first wife. Jerry was married several times, Effie Marie was his second wife. If anyone has info on these families, I would love to hear from you. Sherri of SE OKlahoma
When I was about 10, I was legally adopted by my step father. I have no need to see my original birth certificate as I have a copy and I stayed in touch with my biological grandmother until she died. Also, my biological father and my adopted father are both deceased. But, I have some questions. Can the original birth certificate be unsealed by a court order now? Also as an aside.. I have been working on a webpage for Lawrence OK and I have been comparing my memories to my Mother's. One of the new facts for me was that when I was born in Lawrence, one of the girls that worked in the office came to see me and bring a gift. Mother said she rocked me for about two hours. She told Mother that she had a baby girl once and that her father took it away right after she was born and that she didn't know what happened to it. Donna

I have been trying to locate information on my wife's birth parents for her for a long time. Her adopted mother said she was delivered on January 25,1936 by Dr. Davis Breco, who drowned June 28,1936. After her adopted mother passed away, she found in her safety deposit box , the names of her birth parents. The note said her biological parents were both from Arkansas. I have been unable to locate anything on either parent. Was there a Dr. Breco in Ada in 1936 and would he have been working with an adoption home of some sorts in the area? BK
Posted on: Pontotoc County Query Forum Reply Here: http://cgi.rootsweb.com/~genbbs/genbbs.cgi/USA/Ok/Pontotoc/11028 Surname: CROUSE ------------------------- Marianne, I don't know if there were orphanages in Pontotoc County, OK, but have heard there was a "foundling home" in Oklahoma City about the time period 1910-1913 era you are inquiring about. I have not been able to find a source to locate information about it, but thought it might be a good idea to start with someone in the Catholic Churches in the Oklahoma City area - they may have knowledge about them. My father and his sister were placed in a foundling home in Oklahoma City and were adopted by separate families who changed their surnames. This has created quite a wall. If you should contact the church and locate information on this "orphanage" would you please share the information with the rest of us who have not yet had luck in searching. (Children of Teresa Laws and (?)CROUSE - Leon Clifford, b. 1910 and Geneva Evelyn, b. 1914). I believe there is a St. Joseph's and an Our Lady church in Oklahoma City. I hope this will help somehow. Family Love, Anne
I don't remember of ever hearing of a orphanage in Pontotoc Co. My Aunt & Uncle used to go to OKC to the Baptist Orphanage & bring different children home for a wk during the summer. I went to school with some of the kids that lived at the Baptist Home in OKC. It was on N. Western & about 63rd
There was an Indian Orphans' Home in Atoka (Atoka County) for several years. The Murrow Indian Orphans' Home. Atoka County is South and East of Pontotoc County. I know very little about the Home other than it was one of the first exclusively for Indian children in the area. The Home was founded by J. S. Murrow and, I am guessing now, had to be approved by the Choctaw Nation and initially funded by religious donations, possibly Methodist or Baptist. Sorry, but I can't help more. Posted on: Pontotoc County Query Forum Reply Here: http://cgi.rootsweb.com/~genbbs/genbbs.cgi/USA/Ok/Pontotoc/11026 Surname: ------------------------- Thank you. I will place your names in my notes. This Waymon Bomar Moore was born in a covered wagon under a tree near Allen Oklahoma. His father had been shot in the back the month before, and his mother and kids were headed for Eastland Texas. The family story goes that they had "Family" in Allen and had stopped by their place, but found noone at home, so they proceeded back on the road, but were forced to stop for the delivery of the baby, which was a month or so premature.... I will keep your names in mind. Milda Mason

Where does your name BYNUM come in? My husband's mother's grandmother was a BYNUM. His grandfather was TURNER BYNUM MCLISH who married BETHA (OR BERTHA) STAPP. Their daughter was MARY BYNUM MCLISH--one of 6 children. All of these people were Chickasaw and Choctaw. Can you help me with any of these family names? I will share.

Posted on: Pontotoc County Query Forum Reply Here: http://genconnect.rootsweb.com/gc/USA/Ok/Pontotoc/11023 Surname: WILKEY, LUNA ------------------------- HULBERT is in Cherokee Co., OK. It is between Wagoner and Tahlequah. Tahlequah is the capital of the Cherokee Tribe, so this is why you have heard that it was a Cherokee town. I do not know if that is true, but I do know that my inlaws family lived there in the early 1900's (before statehood)and were not Indian at all. Do you have any information on my WILKEY families? I will share.
