Thanks for the added information Charlotte...I'll look into it. You're a gem.
My grandparents are buried at Cedar Grove also and it seems that back in the day there was a fire that burned all the cemetery records, families had to tell them who was buried there in order for them to create a new list, my grandmother died in 1940 and didn't have a headstone until the 1960's when my father and my uncles carved one and put it down there, my cousin's mother was married to a Gibson, Wray Gibson...if that rings a bell she might have some info on it...
Susan, Shirley Dobbins daughter is listed in Classmates.com in Roff, Okla, so you could contact her to get Shirley to answer some of your family question. Just an idea to help you. Charlotte Her name is Tamara Dobbins

There are some Kuykendall's burried in Lewis Cemetery in Garvin County. It is located four miles south, six miles west, one mile south, and one and one-half mile west of Stratford, on highway 177. I'm not related to them, I just know about the cemetery. I also have a Chickasaw James family connection in the Pontotoc and Coal Couty areas, and found that the enrollment packets kept in the Oklahoma Historical Society in Oklahoma City to be of great help, especially since in my case there was an intermarriage. In the beginning, it would appear that a non tribal member married to a "by blood Chickasaw" became a member of the Tribe by the marriage. Later on, probably as more non Indians intermarried and were getting land as intermarried members, the simple "by marriage" was changed to require marriage by Tribal Law. In these instances, the proofs of both non-tribal and tribal marriages are shown in great detail. Each person is identified by amount of Chickasaw blood or by intermarriage. There is no research fee for Oklahoma residents, but I believe the research fee for non-residents is now $20.00 plus the cost of copies and postage. It is worth every penny!! The address for the Oklahoma Historical Society is: 2100 North Lincoln Blvd. Oklahoma City, OK 73105-4997 If they do not have the information you seek, they can probably direct you to the repository of the records you need. Good luck in your search! Billie

Glad to share what happened to us and hope it helps someone else. It was really important to us to gain the information that was in dad's adoption file, since it gave the birth parents along with one of my great grandmother's as well. Good luck in your venture. The only person that has access to the records is the adoptee. Carolyn

Will you got me on this one. When did Oklahoma open their adoption records. My sister and I tried for many years just to find out if our sister and two brothers were adopted or just put in foster homes. The judge told us he couldn't even tell us that much by law. It took writing to a man in Washington D.C. to get our sister and two brothers records open. We found my sister and two brothers in 1988. One week after that same judge read the records to us. I wish we could have a copy of those two adoptions. I'll love to stick them in my Aunt's face, and tell her it took us 34 years to undo what she did to our family as well as a few other things. BK,,, I wish you all the luck in the world and I'll even send up a pray for you and your family. Carolyn,, I mean no disrespect to you. In some cases I think it would be great if the adoption laws did get open in 1991. Thanks Carolyn, I always thought OK had closed records and was one of the toughest states to obtain any information from regarding adoptions. Going to the court is something new and interesting. I have never heard that. Thanks for your reply and help. BK [email protected] wrote: > Back in 1991 we were able to obtain the entire adoption file of my father in > Washington Co.
