    1. [OKPONTOT] Gene Brewington
    2. Gene was a wonderful genealogist and a great family member. He did extensive research of our Coffey family (his wife's line) and shared his findings freely. He is the reason that genealogy has become so fascinating to me. I've learned so much about the importance of sources and numerous other things that I needed to learn -- all from Gene. He told me a few years ago that his son was interested in genealogy. Gene had notebook after notebook filled with information. But, most of all, he had the information filed in his memory. Our family and the genealogy community has lost a great man. Dianne Coffey [email protected]

    1. [OKPONTOT] Re: Reeves\\ Clement in Stonewall
    2. This is a long shot, but in my ggrandmother's papers I found a sheet of paper with 18 names on it. All have been located and found to be relatives. Except for 3 names: Hattie Fannie Reaves(Reeves?) - Ada, OK; T. B. Fowler - Stonewall; Jessie - Ada, OK. All of these people are long since deceased. If any of this sounds familiar, please contact me. This OK line has gone stone cold. Also found a query on the Pontotoc County OK message board looking for his Fowler's who lived 5 miles northwest of Ada, OK. They came from Hunt Co., TX Sounds like an interesting set of coincidences. Thanks....Rayne ([email protected])

    1. [OKPONTOT] Re: Pontotoc County FOWLERs
    2. Looking for Pontotoc County FOWLERs. Possibly around the Ada/Stonewall area. Possibly with given names of Jesse, Charley, Thomas, William/Willie, Frank, Haywood, Harriett? Can't get much more vague than that, huh? Thomas B. FOWLER had 5 sons. Youngest 2 may have settled in this county. I know they were here at one time, just don't know for how long. May have been born here after 1870. Were still in OK somewhere in 1919. May have been involved in saloon/liquor business in OK and KS. If any of this sounds familiar, please get in touch with me via e-mail ([email protected]). I have hit the proverbial brick wall with this branch. Have much more to share on the other FOWLER branches from Texas.

    1. [OKPONTOT] Jones family
    2. I am researching the William G. Jones family of Francis, OK. They relocated to Pontotoc County sometime after 1890 and before 1900. He also had two brothers that relocated at the same time, James Landy Jones and Thomas Richard (Dick) Jones. I have heard that in order to live in Indian Territory, that a permit had to be obtained. Is that correct? And if that is right, are they on file somewhere? I would be greatly interested in seeing their permit. Thanks Lynne

    1. Re: [OKPONTOT] looking for research help on Joe James and his family
    2. If you did not get the enrollment packet for your couple, you may have missed the most information full documents yet to be found! Address: The Oklahoma Historical Society, 2100 North Lincoln Blvd., Oklahoma City, Oklahoma 73105-4997 I have a family who were in the same area. The husband was not Indian, the wife was one-half Chickasaw and was Eula Eunice JAMES, daughter of Simon JAMES and Virginia "Jennie" Caledonia BYRD. I got a packet for the husband, William Pouncy JEMISON which showed there original marriage in Texas before they went to Indian Territory. At that time 1891, intermarried non-Indians were accepted as intermarried members. Later on, only those married by TRIBAL LAW would be acceptable and it was retroactive to day one. Many couples remarried by TRIBAL LAW and all that information is shown in the ENROLLMENT PACKET. Write to the OK Historical Society and check on the current fees. IF you live in Oklahoma, there is no fee. Out of state pays $20.00 research fee (the last I heard) plus nominal charges for copies and postage. You will not believe the wealth of knowledge to be had in these records. Of course, as in all things, some have more information than others, but all should tell you the names of the parents of the one who is the subject of the record and whether they were of Indian blood or non citizen, whethere they were living or dead and if they were on any of the rolls, the name of the Tribe. Good Luck in your seardh!! I was well please with every packet I got from the Society. Billie
