Posted on: Ottawa County Ok Query Forum Reply Here: http://cgi.rootsweb.com/~genbbs/genbbs.cgi/USA/Ok/Ottawa/10472 Surname: Pope, Langly ------------------------- Looking for information on grave of my great grandfather, Issac Smith Pope. He killed himself in April 1891 in Fairland, Ottawa County. His wife, Stella, lived in Mendon, Missouri and didn't have enough money to have his body returned, and we pregnant with my grandfather and could not travel to Oklahoma. Isaac was buried in Fairland as a pauper. Does anyone know which cemetery his body might have ended up at? And is there any chance there would be a record of some sort? I do have a newspaper clipping from Kentucky, (where his brothers lived). It's the "Owensboro (Kentucky) Messenger" from October 3, 1891. I also have an article from the "Vinita Indian Chieftan" from Thursday, April 30, 1891 that discusses his suicide, noting he had arrived in Fairland six weeks previous as an agent for Columbus nursery and was staying at the home of J. R. Langly. The Chieftan article noted that since his arrival, Isaac had "varried his occupation between selling fruit trees and imbibing vile intoxicants." The Kentucky paper noted that he had promised his wife he wouldn't drink anymore and after drinking heavily he'd killed himself in remorse. Whatever the cause, I would like to know where his body was buried. Does anyone have any thoughts on this? Nancy
