Posted on: Ottawa County Ok Query Forum Reply Here: http://cgi.rootsweb.com/~genbbs/genbbs.cgi/USA/Ok/Ottawa/443 Surname: ------------------------- Lincolnville was one of the earliest towns in Ottawa County. Lead and zinc was discovered there around the turn of the century and a mining boom brought many miners to the area from nearby Galena, Ks. and Joplin, Mo. The community boomed for awhile until much richer ore deposits were discovered just west of there at Picher, Oklahoma. The town eventually dissappeared and only abandoned mines were left. There are now a few new houses in the area. There are no cemeteries there other than old Indian cemeteries in the area. Burials were probably at Miami, Oklahoma, Baxter Springs, Ks; or Missouri. Ottawa County courthouse would have records for any deeds, etc. for Lincolnville, but I suspect that it is all Indian land. I would bet that this man went to Picher or Baxter Springs when the mines opened up there.
