You sent me an article on Simpson and have since then misplaced or it was deleted from my saved folders accidentally. I also need to know how to obtain a cemetery book of Ottawa County. Thanks Ruth Donham

The following persons (Arch & Annie Ballard, Moses & Martha Grazier. also wish to know when the Ballard Family reunion is this year.
Searching for descendants of John M. GUFFEY born 1879 in Arkansas to Martin and Elizabeth Trewhitt Davis GUFFEY. He was in Barry County, MO in 1880, his father died in 1882. John's wife, Nora (I don't have a maiden name), was born about 1881. They had a daughter, Edith and two sons, Vernon and Clifford. John was in Delaware Co., OK by 1910. and in Ottawa County in 1920. May have lived in Fairland. I am posting to both counties. Any help appreciated. Thanks, LoVella Truhitte Moore [email protected]
Don't overlook spelling BYERLEY, BIERLEY, BYERLY, BIERLIE - http://www.census-online.com/links/index.html I found some information about Miami Ok in Craig County even though it is located in Ottawa county. Good Luck,Sonja
Boy do I need help! For 30 yrs. I've been seeking an elusive ggrandmother. According to her dau-in-law (my grandmother), Josephine (Dye) Byerley died 1926 - Miami, OK. Tried twice to get a death certificate from state of OK, and they told me they didn't have one. Another researcher said he checked with Ottawa County ... with no results. I've been to the Miami Library twice to check local information, but no luck. Have checked cemetery records for the area and found nothing. Josephine was born 1856 and married 1878 in Rockbridge, Ozark Co., MO. She seperated from her husband, John Riley Byerley, in 1900, and with her three younger children went to Aurora, Lawrence Co., MO to live (per 1900 census). Her son/my grandfather, Henry Thomas Byerley married Retta Weathers in 1905 Neosho, Newton Co., MO. Per family stories, Josephine lived with my grandparents in Spurgeon, Newton Co., MO - 1910, and in Duweg, Jasper Co., MO - 1911. However, none of these people show up on the MO census. Spurgeon was a mining camp at the time. I've checked for a death certificate with the state of MO for all of these counties ... and came up empty-handed. My grandparents lived in Peoria, Ottawa Co., OK 1915 - 1918. In June of 1918 they moved to Oregon by train. Josephine did not go with them. According to my grandmother, Josephine was showing extreme signs of senility. I can't imagine them moving off and leaving her alone. So she must have lived somewhere! Her youngest son, Jesse Byerley, showed up on the 1920 census in Enid, Garfield Co., OK. Josephine doesn't show up anywhere in 1920, MO or OK. Josephine (Dye) Byerley's parents were Henry DYE and Susan E. GARDNER (said to be 1/2 Indian). According to other family stories, my grandfather and his three siblings were to have inherited land. The oldest sibling, Ephrium Matthias Byerly, was said to have the power of attorney to sell this land for them all. If this was Indian land, I didn't find Josephine or her brother, William Leonard DYE, on any of the rolls. Didn't mean to write a novel for my first query, but I'm out of ideas. What am I forgetting to look at? I had hoped to put flowers on this woman's grave for Mother's Day. It doesn't look like I'm going to make it for Memorial Day either. Thank you for your time. Looking for Needles and Flock that lived in Ottawa county. I was told that there is a Needles buried in GAR cemetery. Charlotte
Forgive me for multiple county postings, but I wanted to get this to as many people as possible. It seems to me there's no group better prepared to locate tombstones than a bunch of genealogists! There is an article in the May-June issue of American Scientist, a professional journal, requesting help in locating gravestones made of whetstone. Yes, this is the same material that's used to sharpen knives. I didn't know it was ever used for gravestones, but it would be a lot more durable than limestone or marble and possibly more so than granite. There is a photo of a stone from 1849 and the inscription is quite clear. The stone is a medium gray-brown color, and would be relatively smooth to the touch. Erik Kvale, of the Indiana Geological Survey, has been trying to trace 19th century commerce in the type of whetstone found in Orange County, Indiana. Some went by barge as far away as New Orleans, but so far he has examples only from southern Indiana and southeastern Illinois. He asks that anyone finding what they think is a whetstone tombstone email him at : [email protected] or snail mail to: Indiana University, Indiana Geological Survey, 611 N. Walnut Grove, Bloomington, IN 47405. Vanette Hobbs Hamilton
I looking for Florence Needles. Living in Ottawa County. Would anyone have telephone directories around 1920's or later. That would take a look and see if their is a Needles listed in the directory. Thanks Charlotte E. Flock
