I would appreciate any information on Fred A. Drake, who was living in Commerce, OKla. after 1920. I don't know who Fred was married too. His parents were Pleasant Allen and Nancy A. Qualls Drake. They were married in Ar. and Fred was born in Missouri in 1891. His brother and sisters were Melvin Drake, Purley, Estella, and Montie Irene. I would especially love to learn when Fred died and where he is buried. Also his wifes name and whether he has children who are still in Ottawa Co. Thanks in advance for any help. Wilma Bennett

Well Jan, now I know why yesterday's post mentioned that there was not a lot of info on the Dobson page. The official Dobson Museum site is located at geocities http://www.geocities.com/dobsonmuseum (I'm the volunteer webmaster) If you may note, the link you provide below is on lasr.net. By going to their original page, you will find that that site is part of a "review". The Dobson page above at geocities is fairly "bare bones", but provides email addy and information about the staff doing research for you. Is there any way to access Miami newspapers ca 1926 online? My grandmother always said that her mother-in-law died in 1926, Miami, OK. I can not find Josephine in any cemetery records for the area, or even in the 1920 census. In 1996, I couldn't find anything on Josephine in the Miami Library. Josephine Dye BYERLEY, b. 1856 MO, was 1/4 Indian, living as a white woman. From stories, it sounds as if she had Alzhiemers. Any suggestions would be appreciated! George -- Thank you very much for responding to my letter!! It is nice to talk to somebody from that area! I only wish I had known about the Dobson Museum while I was in OK - nobody mentioned it - I was even at the Miami Library and they didn't mention it either. I found the Dobson Museum on the Internet - but it doesn't give a lot of info. We visited Picher, Miami, Cardin, and I think Commerce too and tried to find the ghost town of Hockerville! Thank you for looking up the names in the cemetaries in the area!! I have no idea if somebody changed the spelling of their name to Wyman or not (we've had every other spelling, but nobody here spells it Wyman - usually the name Wyman is German and we are Swedish) -- I only know that Carl Henry had his name spelled Wiman on a card that we have of his but his sister helped with the obituary and she most likely had them spell his name Weiman - because that is the way it showed up on the obituary. I would have no idea either if Henry's wife, Ruby (Henderson) Wiman, may have remarried after Henry's death at some point. I guess I could try to send in for a marriage certificate of hers and Henry's and guess at the approx. date. I have done that before and it works sometimes. I don't know where else to look for info on her. I have done a lot of genealogy in my time, but this man and his family, sure has given me the run around! ha! I'm determined to find something else on them! I found a Carl Wiman that was born in 1927 (but didn't say where) and died in 1979 in Lincoln, IL - this came from the SSDI records. I have sent in for the info only because the date this man was born seems to fit in at the right date. And, since it gave his SS # and the city and state where he died, I sent in for his death certificate. Maybe I will get lucky - maybe Carl Henry named his son after himself and this is our man -- I can only be so lucky! ha!! It's worth a shot! Otherwise, I would love to take another trip down to OK and take my time doing more research. I have already been to Sweden twice and found living relatives there, to my ancestors - but I think the US is harder to do research in! Again, thank you for helping where you can. If you can think of any other way or place that I can do a little more research from here, let me know. I don't know when I would have a chance to get back to OK. Dear list -- I have sent my family info awhile back, but would like to try again. Last year I visited Miami & Picher, OK in search of information on the descendants of my great Uncle, Carl Henry Wiman (sometimes spelled Weiman or Weman). (He went by "Henry"). Henry moved from Bonne Terre, MO to OK - His obituary says Hockerville - which no longer exists - and we have a US Bureau of Mines card (from April 2, 1929) that states he lived in Cardin, OK - supposedly he worked in the Picher Mines. Henry died on July 18, 1937. I found his obituary in the microfilms of the Miami Daily News-Record- 1937 newspapers in the Miami Library, but since my time was short, I couldn't find much else. He didn't show up in the Census of 1920 - but we are not sure when he actually moved to OK. I have written to the OK vital statistics and they claim there is no death certificate. The reason may be because Henry's sister, Edna - who lived in MO, had his body shipped back to Bonne Terre, MO to be buried there. His body was taken care of by the Mitchelson Undertaking Co. (of Commerce, OK), which is no longer around. The books from Mitchelson was taken over by the Guilford Thomas funeral home" of Miami, OK. I visited with the owners - at first they had every book but the book listing my great uncle's info - but it was later found at the Ottawa County Genealogical Society - the only info in that book was the same obituary I had found earlier. It was decided that in looking at the past records of other deaths around that time, the Mitchelson funeral director did not always keep good records. So, it is suspected that he made the arrangements to have Henry's body shipped to Bonne Terre, MO and had the obituary put in the paper, but neglected to send in the papers to the State of OK to have a death certificate made. His obituary in OK did tell us something we did not know. It stated that his wife, Ruby Henderson and Henry had one son -- but it did not mention the name of the son. Henry had been married before in MO and had 2 sons - one of which is still living today. It is not known if Henry married Ruby in MO or OK - so I would like to find more info on her also. But, I am very interested in knowing the name of their son -- I cannot find anything on this son. I would appreciate it if anybody knows anything on my family above or where I could go from here. Henry's son, here in MO, is very interested to know if there is still family alive. He is almost 80 years old and has never known that there was another son born to his father, since he lost contact with his father as a very young child. I believe there is a place called Dobson Museum - I was told that I should have visited this Museum, but I was not told about it while I was there. I was wondering if they had an e-mail address, if they would do lookups and if so, how much they charge. I have also had a column put in the local newspaper last year, but only heard from one gentleman. He suggested that I find an elderly lady that used to work in the Post Office around the area of Picher, Cardin and Hockerville - he believes she is still alive - says she knew everybody. If anybody knows anything about my family or where else we can look, I would appreciate any help we can get. We desperately need to find the rest of our family! Thank you all for listening to my story!! Jan (Weiman) Scott

I am searching for information on Robert LITCH (LEACH) who died in Picher. I have no idea when. He was born in 1870 in Indiana, and served time in prison for a supposed murder "in the South". I have seen part of a letter referring to him and the fact that his nephew, who didn't know about him, was contacted to pay for his funeral expenses. Any help or leads for places to search would be appreciated. Thanks. W.G. Floyd N. Wright was my great uncle and Sally was his wife. I don't have any info on her, I just found out their names not too long ago. Floyd was b. 18 Mar 1898, d. 11 Apr 1946. He is buried in Ottawa Indian cemetary, Ottawa County, Oklahoma. His sister (my grandmother) and parents are also buried here. I don't know if Sally is because all I have are the Wright's listed. I will send you any info I find. Do you know where she was born? My grandmother was Alma America Wright and she married Frank Morgan. She was born in Missouri but I don't know yet if her brother was or not. Tammy
