    3. Hi! Wondering if there are any books on the Ottawa area? Alot of relatives from Ottawa Co. and I'd like to learn more about the local history. (SHARPS, ESTES). 2. Jeannie: I too have a miners card from Picher, OK on my great Uncle - from around 1924. I have been to the Picher mining museum in OK - it is very small and you will find other mining cards there as well. I think one of the best web sites I have seen yet on Ottawa County (which includes Picher) is the one below by John Schehrer. He has many collections of pictures of Picher and all the nearby towns with all the mines of years past. I think he even borrowed a few of the pictures from the museum. I was even able to print most of them out. <A HREF="http://www.homestead.com/schehrer/ottawa.html">Click here: Ottawa</A> or http://www.homestead.com/schehrer/ottawa.html Hope this helps -- I have only found an obituary on my great Uncle - his name was Carl Henry Wiman. OK doesn't even have a copy of his death certificate. I seem to find nothing else on him. I visited the Miami Library - which is a town nearby and that is where I found his obit - but I wish I would have known about the Dobson Musem while I was there. They are suppose to have a large amount of info. 3. L. McCalmon: The GAR cemetery book is old and the last burial listed in the book is 1978. I did find MILDRED L. GILBERT, RH, 1977. There are 3 GILBERT families in the Ottawa County School Census, vol II, 1916-1918 but I didn't find a Virgil. Neither could I find Mildred or Melba Beaver. Sammye ----- Original Message ----- From: <[email protected]> To: <[email protected]> Sent: Thursday, October 26, 2000 5:41 PM Subject: [OKOTTAWA] Gilbert Can anyone help me with information about Virgil F. Gilbert? According to Social Security he was born 13 Oct 1903 and died May 1984 in Miami. My problem is that I have two sisters, both married to men named Gilbert. Now he could have married both of course, or there could be another male Gilbert. Any assistance will be most appreciated. The sisters are: Melba Christine Beaver Gilbert born 1915 in Missouri. I don't know anything else about her. Mildred L. Beaver McMackin (first husband) Gilbert born 1 Aug 1900 in Arkansas and died July 1977 in Picher. One of them had a daughter named Bernice. Thanks for any help. L. McCalmon

    3. I have a question that maybe some one could help me with. My grandmother is burried in an unmarked grave next to her husband and our grandfather. The People that own the cemetery say it is not her. There is not a death recond in the vital death records in Oklahoma City, she died in Wyandotte, Oklahoma at her home. Does anyone know of any old funeral homes that might have some old records in that area that we might check for information, she died in 09-13-1914 we think my dad was only 9 months old at the time, he was given to his grand parens to raise. Would a there be a court home in that area that might have a record. Thank you for any help Ruth ann

While in Miami you might want to visit the Dobson museum it is excellent. Again their staff is excellent, well worth the time, and they have the GAR cemetery index books.
