Dear Sammye, Thank you for the posting of the Commerce School District which lists some the children of my uncle, Elias Randall Boatwright. What year would that have been? Mary Boatwright Yegge Gresham OR Surnames of interest: BOATWRIGHT, HOOPER, SANDERS/SAUNDERS, RICKETTS, HARRISON, RICHARDS, PATRICK and PIPER.
I see some new names on our list. Is there anyone in the Ottawa County doing lookups? I have new information on my Glen family and could use some help. Thanks,Charles
All of my relatives, since 1873, were born in Ottawa County http://www.familytreemaker.com/users/d/a/r/Sammye-Darling/index.html
Jackie, R. Couch had two sons in the Picher, Ottawa County Schools 1916-1918; John, born: 7-24-1899 and Joe, born 2-2-1902. When a family has a tribal affiliation the census shows the tribe, if the school dist. knew of it. This era is a time when Indians were denying their ethnicity because of extreme prejudice. ----- Original Message ----- From: "Jackie Couch" <[email protected]> To: <[email protected]> Sent: Thursday, January 18, 2001 10:21 AM Subject: [{OKOTTAWA}] Jack Couch Posted on: Ottawa County Ok Query Forum Reply Here: http://cgi.rootsweb.com/~genbbs/genbbs.cgi/USA/Ok/Ottawa/447 Surname: Couch Lunsford Roller Glasby Smith Province Gray ------------------------- My grandfather was born in Cardin, Ottawa County, OK on May 11, 1914. John: I think I have written to you before, but still want to Thank You for the wonderful website on Ottawa County! I haven't looked at it for awhile until today and I really like your work! I am still looking for records on my great Uncle Carl Henry Wiman (Weiman) who worked in the Picher Mines and lived in Hockerville. An obituary is still all I can come up with. Hopefully one day, I will get lucky and find the records I am looking for. His obituary stated that he had a son that we knew nothing about and I feel one day I will find records on this son. But in the meantime, I appreciate everything you are doing to show us how & where our ancestors once lived! Jan Scott
For those of you that might be interested. I have purchased the book called " MIAMI AND COMMERCE OKLAHOMA CITY DIRECTORY 1917-1918 With a Directory of Permanent Residents of CENTURY, PICHER, QUAPAW and TAR RIVER". This book is out of copy write and I am presently transcribing it to my first website. I will keep you posted and as soon as I finish transcribing Miami I will put it online and it will at that time be work in progress and more added each day. Miami is one of the larger towns so the others should not take as long. Victoria Brittain Allen

Posted on: Ottawa County Ok Query Forum Reply Here: http://cgi.rootsweb.com/~genbbs/genbbs.cgi/USA/Ok/Ottawa/443 Surname: ------------------------- Lincolnville was one of the earliest towns in Ottawa County. Lead and zinc was discovered there around the turn of the century and a mining boom brought many miners to the area from nearby Galena, Ks. and Joplin, Mo. The community boomed for awhile until much richer ore deposits were discovered just west of there at Picher, Oklahoma. The town eventually dissappeared and only abandoned mines were left. There are now a few new houses in the area. There are no cemeteries there other than old Indian cemeteries in the area. Burials were probably at Miami, Oklahoma, Baxter Springs, Ks; or Missouri. Ottawa County courthouse would have records for any deeds, etc. for Lincolnville, but I suspect that it is all Indian land. I would bet that this man went to Picher or Baxter Springs when the mines opened up there. See what the Picher mining district looked like at my website link below Link: Vintage pictures of Ottawa County, Ok. URL: <http://www.homestead.com/schehrer2/index.html>
