In my youth I do remember that at a summer dance on a temporary floor in the meadow across from the Blackstone mine, just 50 yards west of the highway and about a mile north of Eagle Pitcher Smelter, I was sitting on the fender of my parent's car when a young man was shot right in front of me. His only words were, "what did you do that for??" The crowd started yelling, "Murder Murder." I remember the killer was a Deputy Sheriff named Don Stormont and he was later found innocent because of many relatives in law enforcement in the county. I also remember the names Davis and Kirby. If you can check the Okmulgee Times and the Henryetta Free Lance for stories from that era, I'm sure you will fill in a few blanks. Good Luck
